Hi
I have an enamelling kiln with a pyrometer but no programmer. Could I buy one separately or will I have to buy a new kiln for annealing.

Hi Paula, the KCR1 is designed for that very application.
Details are here. http://www.kilncare.co.uk/kilns_accessories_controllers_kcr1plugincontrol..html

Just need to check one small thing, can you see or touch the elements of the kiln or are they hidden?

Hi Lee
The elements are completely hidden.

In which case it will be perfect.
The thermocouple for the KCR1 as standard is metal and so any contact with a live element wouldn't be healthy for the controller or the fuse :o

It will be just a case of making sure there are no elements in the area where the thermocouple gets pushed through.

What type of kiln is it?

Unfortunately it is a no name, I bought it from potterycrafts about 7 years ago and has been used for my enamelling ever since. It was expensive then and I would not want to damage it as it works really well. Looking at the back of the kiln I cant see any problems but what is the length of the thermocouple.

Lee - Kilncare

The thermocouple is 150mm long so should be fine through most enamelling kilns.

What dimensions are the interior?
Is the door an up and over or hinged at the side?
What colour is it?
Can you post a picture?

My guess would be if you got it from Potterycrafts back then, that it is an old EFCO.

If you follow this link there is a picture of it on my beginners enamelling website, its the blue one!

The interior dimensions are 25x18x12cm

It's and old EFCO/Uhlig.

The KCR1 primary design was to be used with these kilns.

It will fit it and run it with no problems at all.

You will probably have a thermocouple access point at the rear of the kiln with a hole that passes right through into the chamber, most did. This is where the thermocouple passes through.
If the hole is there, then it is likely to be a little too wide for the thermocouple (T/C), say 6mm where the T/C is only 3mm. Simply fill the hole around the T/C with fibre blanket or the likes and off you go.
