I just did some for the watercolour challenge just like vine stringer - I painted thick pink stringers onto a white cane (like putting toothpaste on a toothbrush. Sort of.)  Then pulled it into stringer.  But I should have made sure there was a good strong pink in it to get the contrast a bit better, it all splurged a bit.   I think I read somewhere you can use a tapered piece of stringer to get a more natural effect when you paint it on in a spiral but I can't remember which way it's supposed to taper!

Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth "you owe me".

Encase white glass with rubino oro and pull into stringer then paint a rose (spiral round) onto your bead with the stringer, it will take a bit of practice.

Sorry Helen - we posted at the same time  ;D

You can also try different opaque base colours for different shades - rubino over periwinkle is nice - gives a more purpley pink.
