Mucky glass

Nope, not a rude topic. Had great fun playing the other day, but when things cooled down I found most of my beads with clear in them were filthy, but not just clear clear, coloured clear as well (does that make sense?). The clear clear is murky sooty muck, so i did a search here and came up with cleaning the hothead and bleeding the propane hose (don't do that, but I disconnected it today, blew it through then rinsed with warm water and it's now hanging up to dry). But on the coloured clear (blue mainly) I'm getting what i think is copper coming through, have a look....

the top one and the one you can't see coz of the reflection are just sooty scummy, but the two blue ones have coppery scum, especially the middle one, it came up when i was marvering it, cleaned my graphite paddle and my metal marver with alcohol to get rid of muck but it didn't make any difference. The bead on the right has a bit of coppery stuff on the bottom, but that never got touched by anything other than heat.

Any suggestions what I'm doing wrong?

Hmmm....are you sure you're not running out of gas?

It sounds like your working too low in the flame, try a bit higher up, copper coming through in blue is a sure sign of reduction

I must admit I've not been out and shaken the cylinder, but when I got it someone had posted that a 13Kg lasted them 5 months and I only get to play once a week if that. So I don't expect it to have gone, but hang on and I'll run downstairs and have a look......





....well, it's quite light, and when the ratbag child stopped shouting i couldn't hear any sloshing so maybe it's time for a new one. Can you see the sheepish grin from there...I honestly didn't think i'd done much....

Just done a search, I got it back in July, so only 4 months, but the person who said 5 months is on 19Kg, which is half as much again.

Now another search to find out if i can get a new cylinder tomorrow, or will i need to wait til the end of the week.

I'll give that a go as well, but the problem with clears on a hothead is they melt so bl&&%y slowly I get impatient and work my way down to speed up things.
