Can anyone recommend red, yellow and orange transparents or explain to me why the ones I am using go milky and translucent. I have Effetre glass and whenever I use these colours they go all yucky - I want transparent colour, not translucent...... None of the purple through to green do this ........aaaaaargh!

My only clue is that the offenders are "striking" colours.

Make sure you work them long enough to strike (sometimes they need several cold/hot cycles before the true colour shows).

Also, don't work these colours in a reducing flame, and I believe it is better to work them cooler rather than hot.

They are really lovely when you get them to work, so keep at it!!  :)

As Julie says - definately work cooler and in a neutral flame (possibly sightly more oxygen). You do need to let them cool a lot before gently striking them!

I have found that if I have just a little too much propane that it goes milky/murky!

For red - you can't beat CIM's sangre - it's gorgeous.

Hope this helps!

I think that she's done a good job on that - and it's really helpful to see a video, makes it so clear!

Aaaah! Sounds like it might be flame chemistry that is the problem for me. Colour development is not a problem, but I am on a hot head (slight reducing flame)- which is beginning to drive me bonkers. I will try turning gas down a bit more tomorrow and see if I can get better clarity.

Another excuse to upgrade my torch  ..... (note i say excuse, not reason :))

LOL - if you're on a hot head, try working a bit further out in the flame - there should be more oxygen further out!

Will give it a go and report back. Thanks for the help!!
