Dark Tuquiose (effetre) ?

Been torching this morning and I used what I thought was Dark Turquoise.

It's got silver bits in it. It is dark turquoise or is it something else?

(scuse white stuff was practising stringer control, It was meant to be a straight line - no only kidding!)

I use a HH and bulk - almost of my coppery blues go a little silver.

I think it's a chemical reaction with the metals in the glass, and be really pretty.

It's reduced - the hothead doesn't have quite enough oxygen to keep the metal connected to its oxide. Metal oxides are in the glass to give the glass its colour. More oxygen = correct glass colour. Not enough oxygen = metally lustres.

Can be quite a nice look but it's also difficult to control with dk turquoise and a hothead. You can sometimes get rid of the grey/metally hue by soaking in Cillit Bang (Lime and Grime)

I also find that Jocks bead release remover rubbed on the bead takes it away .

Really must try the Cillit Bang thing. Etching it does the job too. A 5 second dip will take off the reduction if it's slight. Or a full etch if it's heavy.

Well you learn something every day. It doesn't always go grey, mine goes pink sometimes, sometimes it stays turquoise. It doesn't do it with light turquoise.

LOL i was cleaning bed release out of it and some got on bead i must have been rubbing as i turned the mandrel to clean inside when finished i noticed a patch where reduction rubbed away so got a clothdiped in pot rubbed bead allover and hey presto unblemished bead .
