This is my first ever post so please forgive me if this is the wrong place but you all seem like nice folks so I am sure you will forgive me.  I have been lampworking for about 3 years - just a hobbyist.  I have bought some new Luna 3.  I have used it twice now and both times afterwards I have a strong metallic taste in my mouth - a bit like sucking a penny but not quite as intense.  I don't have proper extraction (yet) so I work in my kitchen with the window open, the back door open and the cooker hood on full speed.  It is  a formidable cooker hood that sucks the smoke back down the chimney from the room next door - so I think it should be OK?  So, is it only this current batch?  Is this a known phenomenon?  Am I killing myself? Should I just admire my Luna 3 rods from afar until I get my little shed with extraction etc all set up?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Joanie

I love Luna (I have a dew different batches) can't say that I've had this problem at all before .. but then I do have proper extraction!

Hi Trudy I think you are probably right.  I think I will order an extraction kit and a creation station from Tuffers and get him to bring them to the Harrogate bead fair.  I'll just tinker about a bit until them - clearly not with my Luna 3.   :o) Cheers J

I have a cooker hood for extraction in my studio and like yours it's so strong it pulls the steam from my tea straight up, so fast it makes it cold really quick actually.

Is 'proper' extraction something designed particularly for glass work then?  Can't say I've ever had any problems with aftertaste though, I hope you find the solution!
NB. Do not touch hot rods of glass, it is stupid.
