Hello,
I've read alot of people use silvered ivory. Is this something you can buy, or do you have to make your own - and if so how? I've tried using silver foil over ivory but it looks like a big dirty smudge :o not lovely like the pics I've seen here......
Thanks,
Sheena

Hello, have you tried silver leaf?  It's a bit thinner and more subtle than foil  :)

The way I make silvered ivory stringer is warm the top inch of a rod of dark ivory, roll in a strip of silver leaf, burnish on, melt in, melt a large gather and pull a stringer.

Hope that helps  ;D

And don't forget you can silver other colours too. Both types of ivory, coral and turquoise just for starters :)

It does look smudgy when you've just applied the leaf on the ivory, but when you pull it out as a stringer and put that stringer on something else it turns interesting :)

if all else fails i have seen silvered ivory stringers for sale on etsy ,but its so easy to do why would you ?

the stringers dont need to be neat or lovely for the effects to work and i find it works best if given a good melt in to make it spread a bit

give it a go  ;)

Thank-you everyone. I'll try that.  :)

make sure you have your extraction going when you do it and that you are not leaning right over it and breathing deeply when you do it, coz you'll really know about it for a good few hours as you wonder if a chest infection is settling in.  ::)

Have fun  ;D

Hi,
Finally got torch time today and pulled lots of stringers. They worked great! Thanks for all the advice.
