Hiya

I've seen several sets of beads from the lovely folks from here which have silver glass "whisps" or "trails" - they look kind of ghostly almost.

How is this done?  Is it some sort of stringer?

Thank you

Hi Julie

Not quite - I have the storm tutorial already.

What I'm meaning is more like this: http://www.flameandglass.com/photo_5347880.html (apologies to Isabelle for "borrowing" her pic)

This is how I get my 'wisps' - try putting on the silver glass, then heating it up and whilst it's still in the flame, make it a little reducing and at the same time rake the surface. Don't do it for long, or it goes too far. Then put the flame back to normal, shape the bead up and then you can reduce as normal and encase.
No idea if that's anything like the storm tut as I don't have it..

Can I ask what is silvered ivory glass? or silver ivory glass  ???

Mary

Silvered ivory (sis = silvered ivory stringer) is not the same as silver glass. It's just regular dark ivory with silver leaf or foil applied. The sulphur in the ivory reacts with the silver to give a pebbly mottled effect.

Either put the silver straight on the bead, or wrap the end of the hot rod in silver, rub it to make stick, then melt and pull into stringer. It looks a grey mess to start with!
