Hi,

Could someone please give me some tips on mixing colours. I have been giving a go this afternoon trying for a camoflage brown but it keeps coming out streaky.

I assumed it was becasue I am not mixing the colours enough but I spent a good while on the last one and it came out the same.

I am simply using two rods - heating them both and them squishing them together and 'mixing' - am I not using the right technique?

Any help would be really appriciated.

me too...I tried to make pink & I got a streaky orange...it looked quite cool, but it wasn't the way I planned it!

If no-one is coming up with an answer on here, you could try a search on the LE site..?  There doesn't seem to be much noise on here at the moment so could be a fair few members are still away.

Mixing colours is fun.
I find sometimes that I can keep adding more of one of the colours if I'm not careful.

To mix, use different ways of manipulating the glass in succession.  Try holding the left rod and rotating the rod in your right hand clockwise, then anticlockwise. Then try moving both rods around each other (a bit like hand jive but closer). You can also twist like making a twistie but not pulling out.
I remove the right hand rod then use an old mandrel to mix sometimes, you can then use this to make your pull. Often the streakiness doesn't show too much once you've pulled it down.

I'm also wondering if the mix of colours are giving you a reaction? Try different colours with your mixing method and see if you get streaky again, then maybe you'll be able to tell if it's the glass or your mixing?

how long does it normally take to mix?

I only spend about 5 mins on a colour.  I don't know if I'm slow or fast.  :)
