My kiln has overshot it's garaging temp!

OMG just went into my studio to have a crafty ciggie and noticed my kiln was glowing red, checked the temp and it was 948 degrees! I just ran my normal program and skipped the first segment to cut short my session and left it, I now have 30 melted blobs on the floor of my kiln, a broken finger and 4 craft fairs booked between now and Christmas!

I am going to run a test cycle tomorrow after work and see, but I am not going to be comfortable leaving it on overnight again!

Bloody hell What a winger! On a brighter note, the Tajik opal frit I used to make all the beads looked wicked going in! the bugger is that these were the beads I made to donate all the proceeds for the phab kids charity that Thursdays fair is in aid of! poo!

I meant to ask if anyone knows if it would have shut off at a certain temp or would it have kept on boiling away?

KJ - what kind of kiln is it? If it's a Maxi (or Maxine) contact Lee straight away as there was a fault with some of the controllers from the early batch.

It's an sc2 kaz, I bought it about 3 years ago from warm glass.

Just pulled all the mandrels out of the kiln and poked at the glass and it has all come free from the kiln floor woohoooooooooooo! Going to bed now and hoping the kiln fairies are forgiving tomorrow!

 oh no what a shame was your finger already broken then?I thought you maybe broke it trying to get the beads out. My bead cube overheated once when i had left it on and gone away through the house but did go back for something and saw it glowing red and the temp goung up and up, it was the thingy that goes into the wotsit was loose the thermocouple that goes into the hole at the back of the kiln, it had been nudged loose, you havent one of those on your kiln have you . I check mine most times now as i got a bit of a fear. I know yours isnt a beadcube though.

Give Robin at Cherry Heaven a call, he has all the spares and can talk you through.  It sounds like something like a relay problem ... (do I sound like I know what I'm talking about?  )

Fingers crossed you get it sorted - I know if I try and ramp up too fast it can over shoot.

Some instructions can say ramp at FULL - but I don't let mine go faster than 900.

If you haven't changed your schedule, it could be something as Julie has advised! x

Yep, defo sounds like a stuck relay. One things for sure G.O. if you hadn't have stopped it the odds are it would have continued until the element failed thus requiring a new inner for your kiln.

It wouldn't have been that dangerous but it would have been costly.
