Help please - Twistie challenged!

Hi All

I made some twisties this evening, and that bit went fine - was quite pleased with my work.  (They were white and clear by the way).

Put them on a bead... and well, they look vaguely like someone just plonked some rather hideous patchy lines on a bead!

Any tips please on how to make Twisties look nice on a bead?  I've tried before with other colour combinations and have had the same problem!

I picked up a top tip from the 1st Flame Off - Laura Sparling's demo if my memory is right! She laid her stringer down and if it was slightly skew-wiff she moved it with her tweezers before melting it in, and I use the same technique with twisties. But the patchyness - I have had this with twisties which have not been encased with clear before twisting. Were your's encased?

I don't encase twisties - must try that!  My results can be hit and miss, depending on the colour combos.  I love to make twisties with iris orange (rod) and a couple of other colours, say effetre violet and periwinkle.  Or how about turquoise and ivory, left raised on a turq and ivory bead.

I suppose that it is more of a latticino than a twistie but it works for me!

Yep, I'm sure it does Charlotte, it'll give a lovely crisp finish.  Sometimes I like the mushy effect, but sometimes its just ... bleurgh

I love making them - there is something very satisfying doing the twisting thing!  Maybe I'm a bit odd!

Plain white/clear twisties look very good on trans grey, ink blue and amber. Were you applying the twisties to trans or opaque glass Helen?

Never stretch your twisties or you lose the twistiness. You can keep twisting when you put them on the bead. If you go in the wrong direction you'll untwist them.
White will disappear if you pull it too finely - choose another colour which is more opaque.
Does that make sense?

I was applying to antique clear... and although the twisties looked good in the rod, on the bead you can't really see much definition between the clear and the white - they just look kind of smudgy and not very nice at all

Ah ok Sal, I was doing wavy lines, so perhaps I "waved" in the wrong direction and undid my twist....

I will try some other colours tomorrow and try keeping to straight lines, and see if that works any better.
