chook dont forget to make sure the silver thingys will fit in the  bead....a bit gutting when u get them and they too big..or to small...thats where u will find a pair of digital calipers indispensible..well i do anyway....

I have had a bit of a go trying to core with copper tubing (cos it's cheap) and a couple of disaster beads and it was a complete fail. I think the tubing is too thick and I didn't anneal the metal properly or I just don't have enough control or something. The copper tubing flared out on one side and not the other and went all wonky. And that was before I even turned the whole lot over to do the opposite end of the tube. Now I see the value in the Impress Bead corer Machine thingy - even pressure and control... and the bead can't slip. I think I might just need one of those for my birthday.....

I have just ordered one of these. It looks like I can make my own version of the Impress Bead liner from it,
if necessary I will have to get one of the Impress spare pegs to make up the bottom bit.
It is basically a flaring tool for brake pipes. My OH runs a garage and kindly went and found his for me, but it was covered in 30 years of oil and grease!

I have only made one big hole bead so far on a 5mm mandrel, so I'm off to make some more with and without double dipping, to give me something to practise on.

Hi,
I am planning to make a bottom bar like the Impress one, using one of the Impress pegs that you can buy as a spare part.
OH says he can use his workshop to tap into the "top bit" so I can attach the bottom bar with screws - thats if I can't fudge it with the bar and little adaptors that come with the tool. I will let you know how I get on.

The spare pegs you get from Art in the Round are just little screws - you'll need to add something to the bottom bar to hold the screw.
