To core or not to core?

I hope I am putting this question in the right place, ........thinking goes- I am a newbie and it involves glass beads.

I have made a bunch of beads to fit onto 3mm sterling snake chain and it now occurs to me that the reason for silver coring could be that it protects the chain from damage by the beads (and the silver also looks really cool with the glass).
Should I be coring my beads to protect the chain, or am I just worrying needlessly??? ??? ??? ???

Personally - I think it's just a gimmick - I've had some glass beads on a chain now for five years and they look exactly the same as when they first went on them. So does the chain!

One thing you do get though - the snake chains can get a little dusty looking from the bead middles as no matter how well you clean them there is always a small residue of bead release elft there which ingrains itself into the snake chain "links". Easily removed with cleaning though.

Yay! That saves me a lot of work!
Thanks!!!!!

im with sal on this one, i cored mine with a kit from halfords, 1p a core,
not quiet silver, but it does the job.

I have one that isn't cored, next to some that are, I wear it lots and it is fine :)

I've worn uncored ones before, the only thing I noticed was the cores on the transparent ones get grubby and show the dirt, but apart from that they were fine. A thick shiny silver chain may become scratched though from wearing them on it too.

I would think the glass is harder wearing than the core!

Must say, they look nice with a silver core, though  :D 8)

I think I am going to have to try the silver coring as well. I have two bracelets on with no cores and the chain is getting a little "sanded" and losing it's shine. This is OK, but I might just have to try the silver cores too and see how they go. There are simply not enough hours in the day for all the things that this lampworking demands that I try!

you will see how i used them, they are not anywhere as good
as the silver ones but its cheap and easy.

I use the Palmer Metals ones - can't remember the price but they are sterling silver, very cheap and look great (if you glue them in neatly  ::))
