Gold Leaf with Frit?

I've just started playing with gold leaf. Mine's called "double" leaf, I guess that's just a bit thicker than the thinnest leaf. It doesn't burn off in the same way as silver does, it sort of sticks more, so I've been toying with how to get a more fragmented look to it. I haven't tried it yet, but I think if you made something like SIS but with gold leaf over say a transparent (maybe straw yellow?), you'd get a more crumbly broken up leaf...? I think it would look amazing with black stringer or ribbon as well. I'll try it too but not before Monday (half term!). OR ooh I just thought of this, and it could be amazing, what about applying it sparsely as you can, then melting the bead and letting it droop and swirl it? That would really break it up and if you used it on a transparent you might get layers of gold too.

Otherwise, I've seen a lovely effect from making a white core and encasing with the pale yellows like straw, then etching, it gave a sort of glowing pearly gold... That's very subtle.

I'm guessing fuming and reduced rubino or eg DH Aion are not considered subtle...?

I like the effect of burning the silver leaf to gold too, especially when some of the silver stays silver, but the gold colour is not as pretty as gold leaf, I don't think.

Oh blimey, I'm going to have to get the torch out tomorrow now, kids or no kids.

Hi was wondering if this is the sort of effect you were looking for Julie. This isn't my bead it was one I had found ages ago. I remember that the metal in it is palladium and straw yellow I think

? encasing it.

have you got the bits to do fuming. I've never done it myself but I Love the subtle gold effect that gives

Julie, gold does not react with glass the same way silver does, and won't do the "cobwebby" thing. I don't know exactly what effect you are after, but you could always make something like this, which has a golden look to it - if you use a transparent glass instead of opaque it will have more of a translucent quality, I think :

A lot of frits go golden colours when used with silver foil like Jaq said. And if you then decorate over the top with white or pale pink they can end up going a warm golden colour too as they react with the silver.

Straw yellow over silver foil, quite old beads so not brilliant. I like them and they do look like I've used gold foil, but subtle they ain't

These are gold leaf on ivory, with Mocha frit. It can react with ivory, but it can play nice too!
