Gold Leaf with Frit?

I've been asked for some subtle gold beads and I was wondering if gold leaf under frit works as nicely as silver does?

I know I could go and try it for myself but I'm not going to get any torch time till Saturday evening now (  )

I should know the answer to that one shouldn't I?   But I don't, sorry...

I've never used gold foil for 2 reasons
1 - Too much of a skinflint to pay for it - this is the main reason
2 - I very rarely like the look of it, certainly not enough to buy it myself...

I would love to see how it turns out though so please post some piccys hun,

why not encase silver under frit with lausha clear, it turns it gold .... i will get my coat

Because it its encased it won't do that cobwebby thing - don't forget your scarf

I use gold leaf. It can go black if you overheat it and I would worry that melting in the frit would need too much heat to keep the colour. You can get a nice russet colour of you spot heat it on ivory.

I've never managed subtle with gold leaf - what about some encased goldstone?

Hmm, she specifically wants pale golden tones though, so far I've just shown her light topaz and straw yellow dipped in gold pixie dust.  

Maybe I'll try the silver over straw, with lauscha over the top ... okay Sandy, you can stay

Straw on silver will also give gold (should have thought of that before)

Ah - straw over silver, instead of silver over straw!  Yep, I'll try that!

This is what I mean by cobwebby, Sandy, but there's probably a better description!  When the frit pushes the silver aside so it makes a kind of cobweb!

Is there any way of surface treating silver so it looks gold?  Y'now like you would use a patina on metal?  Would that work on the silver that has moved to the surface of the glass do you think?  Or would it wash/wear off?  Or am I talking rubbish again?...

I wouldn't use leaf, I have made a few like this and you will loose most if not all of it as it will just burn away. Foil would be better as it will give you more working time You could try silver leaf/foil with pinky frits as most of those will turn to gold, like this
