encasing silver

i made this bead at the class with sarah hornik in the summer,
i have been asked to make similar beads, round , with swirly pale blue and silver encased instead of gold,
would silver foil be better than leaf? and what are the chances of it discolouring when encased? i will be using lausha.

i may do a different version, of a pale blue silk bead with silver wire around it, what do you think?

I like foil better than leaf myself.....I guess I'd experiment a bit with both and just see what the results are....I know this may not help a lot

using lauscha will turn your silver to a golden hue.... the only way to keep it silver is to use a different clear... historically I would have recommended vetro... but the quality of it seems to be really poor at the moment... I think crystal clear is the one most people would recomend now to keep it silver

I've only used leaf - managed to keep it silver, but you have to keep it way out of the flame, and try not to get it too hot when you're melting in the clear. It's not fool-proof, but it's possible. I only use effetre clear.

have made few, the encased wire looks silver on some bases and not others, not had much luck encasing the foil, will try again,

If you're using a blue base, could you try pale aqua as an encasing rather than clear?

Or try using palladium instead of silver. Its expensive but it stays silver when encased.

was coming to that conclusion sarah,
i am taking the few beads i have done to show lara, thats who has asked me ,just so we are talking the same blue

I was taught to use pale aqua or pale blue if at all possible.

It seems like most clears just don't stay that way when around silver.

I got a hold of a clear that was made in the Soviet Union years ago and not made anymore.  (not compatible with any other glass either, but great for practice and I couldn't beat the price.)

I know.  I think I'll need to get a job at a carnival so I can use up the clear and learn to make little clowns and elephants. ÷)
