Aventurine / Goldstone

Does anyone know if Goldstone / Aventurine itself has a COE, or whether it just 'becomes' the COE of the glass you encase it with?

For example, if I make some aventurine stringers using Bullseye COE90, does this make the stringer completely COE90 or is it more unstable than a bullseye stringer made wholly from glass?

What about the aventurine rods you can buy? I have a green rod but have no idea of the COE. Does anyone know if Aventurine rods are usually a particular COE?

I think you have to apply the 5%-rule here as well!

I *think* aventurine does have a COE as its copper particles in glass? and therefore you have to think about in terms of using glass as with any other. I could be wrong here though...

Bullseye does a funky green sparkly rod which is basically green aventurine, and thats fantastic. Bt you can also get 104coe aventurine rods too, just to confuse you!

I've seen 104 aventurine, and 96 aventurine, so you do need to watch which you've got.

So I guess I need to a) find out whether the green aventurine rod I have is COE90, 96 or 104 and b) make sure I only use 5% aventurine with Bullseye glass!

I was wondering this myself.  I found a few posts on WetCanvas and LE about it - it seems that several people use it with coes 90 and 96 with no problems.  If you use the chunks and encase it to pull your own stringer then I think it becomes compatible with that coe.

I think there is a lot of dodgy green goldstone chunk out there too. The stuff I have is very temperamental. So what did I do? I thought "I know, I will mix it with Czech glass" which is as moody as they come.

Result was a set of beads that literally exploded over the course of a fortnight. I had to keep them in a box and each time I would look in, another one had self-destructed into a million pieces.

A sobering lesson of course in two uncomfortable facts - which is coe doesn't always count of jack squiddly and annealing won't do a darn thing if the compatibility isnt there in the first place.
