Why is it called lampworking?

Sorry if it's been asked before but I don't think the FAQ has been compiled yet.

I would've thought "torchworking" would be more appropriate ...?

it's something to do with the 'ancients' using an oil lamp and bellows to bring the flame temperature up to scratch.
