I have been using Tuffnell's "brilliant gold" fine frit, to make headpin-type flower centres - dipping a hot blob into the frit, melting it in slightly, then reducing it. But I don't get gold, I get a sort of lustrous dark silver. It's pretty, but it's not gold.

Is there a trick to this, does anyone know?

(And a Merry Christmas to one and all!)

You might have to reduce tha glass much slighter than you did. This glass might contain lead in the glass matrix, that reduces to a dark silver (like haematite). Just turn gas up to "dragon-breath" and go quickly several times through the tail end of the flame. Watch the bead as the gold comes up.
