Hi -

Do I just need a metal drill for drilling through silver?
Anyone know of a good demo and tools to buy for this?
Thanks!

Hi Jeanette

You can get suitable drill bits at Cooksongold.  You could use a dremel, flex shaft, hand drill or drill press.  You tube has loads of videos you could check out.

If you get a multi chuck, you can change drill bits faster.

I have a Dremel with flex shaft, some Dremel bits and also some I got from Cooksons in a circular holder. I also have a Dremel workstation that allows you to mount the drill as a pillar drill.

I have a hand held Dremel and a pendulum drill.

if you just want to make holes, punching pliers or a screw down punch will do the job just as well, and often more accurately.

Yes, just want to make holes. Have bench pillar drill and a dremel, it's the drill bit I nee. Have about a 100 in the garage, but not sure if I need something special or a regular metal drill is OK.
Interested in the screw down punches, George, and saw them on some videos but can't find a supplier in the UK.
I just want to put a hole in a pendant for the jump ring...

Thanks!

They do a nice selection here:

I have ordered stuff from them before and they are good. I find it less fiddly to punch a hole in smaller things rather than drill one, as long as the metal isn't too thick.

I think this is the one you're thinking of Jeanette - http://www.cjbeaders.co.uk/18453/Metal-Stamping/ImpressArt-TwoHole-Screw-Punch-24mm-and-16mm-Holes

As for drill bits, a set of HSS bits in a range of sizes from 0.5 to 1.6mm is probably what you want - they often come in microboxes. You do need to have the right chuck to take these but your pillar drill should do the job.
