I forgot to add it to this thread specifically: one solution for wobbliness is to use a double-ended pin vice (can get them on eBay). Stick a bit of mandrel in one end to make it a comfortable length to hold, put your earring post in the other and have a damp cloth ready to loosen the chuck and let the earstud fall out at the end. I use my little marble mould as a handy handled device for slinging the earstud into the kiln, cos it's too fiddly to try undoing it directly into there  :)

Hey Everyone, this is my first time commenting on a post.
Basically I have been making studs on the end of a narrow mandrel and then removing once cool and glueing, sadly, the glue doesn't always seem to stick. Is this technique a lot more reliable I.e. glass to stainless steel studs?
Thanks!

Kalorlo

Definitely: just make sure your first wrap onto the metal is of a decent thickness, and they aren't going anywhere!

Brilliant, thankyou.
I just wanted to check, I am only buying the 50 pairs of studs and the cost is coming to around 18.50 euros.
For anyone else ordering from the UK, is that the amount they paid?

Hi!
I just wanted to post a short update.
We have a tutorial now that shows how to make your own earstud-mandrels. The text is in German only, but the pictures speak for themselves: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.187838628017314.45531.141502792650898&type=1

Thanks for the video, does anyone know where to get the Dr Beckmans polishing paste? or similar?

afina

Lantana, do you have a household polishing paste for ceramic glass cooktops? Because that is what Dr. Beckmanns is for. If so I would give it a try.

Love this tutorial thank you. Just ordered the studs and crocodile clips before I noticed the update, ah well.

Quick question though what is the tool called that is used to cut the glass rods or what can I use as I don't have any tools yet.

Hi Afina

I was just wondering if it was possible to get slightly longer earring posts

Janet

afina

Hi Janet!
We will inquire into it. If it is possible, then it will surely take some time as we just bought a new lot and have to earn the money for the new order first ;-)
What length would you like?
