I have a saffire 25 bar p4 regulator on my propane.  My flame has been very  variable.    I've just connected to a new tank and wondered if i should adjust the regulator.  I've a mental block as to what i used to have it on...  It's screwed  quite far down anti clockwise at the moment. There are markings on the inner side, i think they're numbers bearly readable ( I'll get my magnifying glass to see tomorrow)  Does anybody else have this regulator and what position do they have it on?    The actual valve on the tank i  only turn a half turn from close to open.  You'd think i'd know by now but i've been doing very little beadmaking and just can't remember! ::)

I have had a search around the internet and cannot find any references to a saffire p4 25 bar regulator.

"25 bar" probably indicates that the regulator is rated to 25 bar input pressure and is designed for propane bottled gas. The boiling point (pressure) of Propane is around 8 bar at ambient temperatures but will reach 25 bar at 80 degrees C (Don't let your bottle get too hot). There is a chance that the old regulator has some corrosion inside which is affecting the smoothness of the pressure control.

I notice you have another post about the regulator. If you are looking for a new one and are happy making your own connections then you can save nearly £20 over Tuffnells by buying a propane welding regulator (which is what they sell anyway). Look for a discharge pressure of 1 - 2 bar. e.g. http://www.outlandsales.co.uk/product.php/2596/0

No idea about your regulator, no idea who mine's made by but the valve on the tank (the knob on the top) I was always told turn right open, then in an emergency you only have one way to turn it off.

Thankyou for the reply,  i have been having problems adjusting it for some time,  I suppose i just needed someone to confirm it could be corrosion.  I think for peace of mind i will buy a new regulator as suggested  :)
