A little bit of butter also helps: I put the butter on my finger and then rub the bottle where the glue-residue is. Most times it rubbs off quite easily.

Thanks for that.  I should be able to find something in the house that does the job.  The link was also useful, I must improve my search skills

Brasso (the wadding one in the tin, not the liquid) works well too!

Re Bombay Saphire bottle.  DH has looked and thinks they may be etched if that is any help.

Thanks probably a case of not using that part of the bottle when re-cycling into beads.

No, you can, don't worry about not using it. The only part I'd not use again is the bottom, seems to really scum up the beads (which is a bit of a bum as it's really thick glass and you can get lots of beads out of it).

Thanks one day I will get around to trying it but I am only on a hot head.  Brother sent me the bombay bottle and I have a couple of dark blue sherry bottles as well.

plus a special champane bottle from a friends wedding, it will be their 30th in a couple of years time and I want to make them something special from the bottle for that.
