I went out to my outhouse last night to make some beads - my gas went on Sunday so hadn't torched since then and BLIMEY - it was ffffffreeezing outside!

I have a thermotube, which is a great little thing, as I couldn't see my breath in the air in the shed, but it was still pretty cold.  The temp inside my kiln when I switched it on was 7 degrees.

I just wondered if anyone had a thermometer in their sheds to they know how cold it is??  I torch with the door open, not wide open now because its far too cold for that but enough so that I am getting fresh air and I managed about 4 hours last night before the cold finally drove me inside in search of a hot chocolate!! ;D

Just interested!

No, but I'd be interesting to know what it is.  I work in a ground level basement.  The house is a about 400 years old, old stone, and the internal supporting walls are about 2 feet thick, so I'd imagine the outside walls are at least that.  The temperature where I work is constant all year round so lovely and cool in the summer, and still very comfortable in the winter (although I do tend to wear a gillet)  ;D  I've no idea what the temperature in the room is, but the kiln usually reads between 14 and 17 degrees.

I do  ;D

In the summer the highest it went was 45c  :o  so I had to invest in an aircon unit-fantastic thing!

In the winter I keep a low kw electric heater going to keep the damp away and so it's a little more inviting, the lowest I've seen was the other day when it was 7c which is too cold for me (several health issues so getting silly cold is not a good idea and I'm a bit protective of myself) so I've bought a mini supersur gas heater off ebay to nip out and turn on before I go back out to torch  ;D

I work in my garage, it's currently -3 so no chance of melting anything today >:( :(

I don't have a thermometer, but my kiln read -5 when I switched it on this morning!!    :o :o

I have a little heater in my shed, and I find it gets quite toasty warm in there.  Only my feet get cold, so yesterday I took a hot water bottle out with me and rested my feet on it....lovely!!   :) :)

My studio is in a partly converted garage & the thermometer is reading -1c although the water in a cup hasn't frozen ???
It's pretty darn cold out there though ::)

How will the floor cope with the weight of all your glass  :o

I am lucky as my studio is insulated and because I do ceramics, my large kilns are better than any heaters. Temp outside yesterday was
minus 5

My kiln is reading 4C at the moment....the same as my fridge! If does heat up pretty well with my little electric fan heater but I'm putting it off....

I wear a sheepskin deerstalker type hat that DH lent me. A down jacket with a fur gilet over the top and long sheepskin boots. An interesting look. At least I can manage to keep going though. I don't need a thermometer to tell me it's flipping cold.

Too cold for a thermometer in my shedio, not sure they go that low  ;)  Am determined to get out there this weekend, been putting it off for several weeks but surely thermals, furry boots, jacket, radiator and wooly hat should be enough?  I know it's cold out there, we still have frozen pipes outside so no water to my big (textiles) shedio which is a bit of a problem as I need to bring wet dyed scarves into the house now instead of washing them  out there.
