Hi Janey,

there are quite a few tutorials here http://www.frit-happens.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=68.0

and the murrini comp thread is also worth a look http://www.frit-happens.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13147.0

Hope there is something there to inspire you

Yep seen all those  ;D  and tried most of them.  I'm looking to something more complicated.  I guess it's just a matter of using the basics and then making more complex designs.  I really love making Murrini and I tend to use the time it takes my kiln to warm up to do stuff like that!  Also whilst we're on the subject, can you recommend GOOD glass nippers for cutting cane? as my dad wants to buy me something glassy for xmas.

Did you see this thread on LE? It shows pulling a duck murrini - on a Hot Head!

Oh, and the Kimberley Adams book has diagrams for building a face and the alphabet, if you are interested in that kind of murrini.

You have hit the nail on the head Janey, it is a matter of using the basics and then making more complex designs. I love making murrini because you can be so creative and detailed on such a small scale.

This type of cutter is good for cutting smaller murrini:

...as the wheels do not cause as much damage to the edge of the murrini as the larger plier-type nippers do.  I use both kinds as the plier-type nippers (which Martin sells) are able to cut larger canes than the wheel cutters.

Edited to add - the Zig-zag cutters are not cheap but you can get similar versions on ebay at half the price.
