Has anyone insulated their shed (sorry work space) I am about to be evicted into 8x6 shed and OH wants to insulate the shed. Is there anyone who works in theirs in the winter.

I think that quite a few peeps on here have insulated sheds... err.... studios :)

turnedlight

Yes, and I insulated and I'm pleased I did.  :)

SandraJ has and it's brilliant - she would tell you herself but she's sunning herself in Cyprus!!!

I might be getting a new shed studio in the next few months.....

brother came round last weekend to look at if I have enough paving slabs for the base, and how big would it need to be?  Sis in Law asked how long it would be before I actually got a shed though (I have one that was given and its full)..... my next student payment is due in September...  ;D ;D ;D (found some summer houses online for around £500).

Might be a long while before I can get it powered and insulated, but if I can have a decent space to put my huge stock of glass, my cutting space and my grinder, even if my fusing kiln lives in the kitchen a bit longer, it's gonna make me a whole lot happier!

And of course, we will be looking to incorporate a torching space, but don't tell Ashley...... :-X

OH yes, and we will be insulating - not so much for the keeping it warm aspect, as a torch going and kiln on would sort that out, but if electricals are going to live in there, then it's a good idea to avoid condensation and overnight cold affecting them.

when doing mine we decided to insulate the floor with thick polystyrene (as it did not have one !)...but decided to leave the roof as thought torch kiln oxycon light  etc would proberbly provide enough heat ....but i have a brick shed not a wooden one which possibly makes a difference ??

Woohoo Dawn - you go girl.

mine is not insulated and I was making beads with snow outside. My feet got a bit chilly but Cody socks sorted that out. Otherwise was dead cozy, heating is just an electric fan heater with a thermostat. The Walls are wooden planks about 5cm thick.

I'd definitely recommended it - mine's brick built, concrete flood and tiled roof - first winter bl**dy cold!
Whilst I was OK about a foot from the flame, everywhere else was freezing! (Also rods were very shocky - as expected, also I've read that oxycons can be a bit tempermental if it's really cold!)
So now we've insulated the roof space and installed an oil filled radiator and it makes a HUGE difference :D
If you have the opportunity, do it, you wont regret it!

I have ordered the insulation today and some sheets of ply to double wall the area. One firm wanted £20 to deliver 1/2 mile from store so found some elsewhere and delivery only £5 so saved some money there.
The grandchildrens toys have been sorted and they are now in there new home, so shed now empty and all spiders evicted. untill tomorrow when I have to evict  them again.

Would that be the grandchildren, toys or spiders? LOL

Seriously though, you wont regret insulating :D Good Luck

Grandchildren/toys/spiders evicted for good. Grandchildren now have new toy shed. Well see how they like their new toyshed this weekend when we get invaded again.

Great! Forgot to say, I even insulated the floor, we put down the thick cavity wall foam, and then laminate flooring on top, I'm so pleased we did too :)

Ooh reading with avid interest as will hopefully be insulating my shed after putting electrics in this autumn.  :)  It was soooooo cold last winter and I got really fed up with all my glass rods shocking and spitting everywhere.  ::)

Vicki

yes, I have bubble wrap & tarpaulin between the out layer & the inner cladding in my shed...in the winter it does start off freezing cold, but once your torch & kiln are on you'll really want to retain the heat they make  :)
