 8) That is cool. At least you have a seat; I've only got a hard topped stool.
I've got ventilation envy too, and a pack of silver foil sitting
forlornly on my workbench... :-\ ;D

All from ebay for a grand total of £94.37inc postage. The fan has two speed settings depending on how you wire it,I've got it on the low setting which seems fine for my set-up.

This is every thing I got:
In Line Duct Extractor Fan for Hydroponics - 150 6" Dia Item Number 180325313860   £51.94 GBP  x1
150mm duct to wall connector  Item Number 220340020849   £2.59 GBP  x1
165mm quick release clamps  Item Number 220340021900   £0.99 GBP  x4
150mm 6" Hydroponics Aluminium Ducting Item Number 220340032612   £9.95 GBP  x1
200 - 150mm pressed reducer Item Number 220340017869  £9.95 GBP  x1

+ P&P

Everything arrived next day.

Also you need a length of standard electric cable and a plug,I just used an old printer power cable and cut off the end to expose the wire.

Hope that helps.

Looks perfect - has the car been relegated to live outside?

The car is sulking outside getting pooped on by the biggest bottomed birds in the world!Theoretically I can dismantle everything in about two minutes to put the car away but y'know.....

Rob, I am delighted that you have your priorities right - why dismantle when you have everything set up just so!  My little car lurks outside too (but that is because Ben's roadster is FAR MORE IMPORTANT than it) and yes, the pigeons use it as target practice too.

Just wait until the autumn when the birdies have been eating ripe blackberries ( i live in the country) my nice green car gets splattered in PURPLE bird poo
hmmmmm thinking - would that be a good colour combo for beads

Pat from Canvey

The birdies eat my purple grapes when they ripen. Purple poo looks great on my old pale blue banger and we get Canada Geese flying overhead to Canvey Lake from Two Tree Island every day. Enough said.

Rob, I sent your pic and shopping list over to my dad cos he's been given the job of improving my ventilation and he came back with a question he keeps throwing at me, and I just don't know how to answer:

Yep, I have been looking at such fans for months, but they are usually plastic bodied and when I ask if they can be used in a hot (how hot) air extraction purpose, the seller never has a clue.  It worried me as to how hot your discharging air will get – over time and if we might have the whole thing go up in flames

Any comments Rob, or anybody, please?

I've got the same ventilation system and it works great, two speed settings :)

Hi Julie?

The set up at the mo is less than ideal, but when I've got a bit more time, the fan will be much further from the flame with a length of aluminium duct going from the flame to the fan. That way the air will have cooled considerably by the time it reaches the fan.The other thing to consider is that the fan sucks in a lot of the surrounding air which dilutes the gas coming from the torch and again means the air is quite cool when it hit's the fan.I've put my hand directly behind where the ducting is now attached and the air was barely warm,so (and I am NOT an expert by any means) I don't think heats too big of a problem especially if if you have a flared end piece on the ducting by the flame (I used a 200 - 150mm reducer which is the metal funnel shaped thing directly on the fan).

Hope this makes sense but here is a page that makes the whole thing really clear, and you can see where I mean about the fans position when I've finished tweaking.

P.S. you can also get metal cased fans ,here's one on ebay
