Help please on etiquette of returning cracked beads

Thank you for all your replies - I'll contact the person concerned and explain the problem. (You'll be relieved to hear that it doesn't involve any of the beads I may have bought from your good selves.) I'm sure they'll be as understanding as you all seem to be, now that you've made fell it's okay to say something.
As a jewellery maker I'd rather hear of a problem with anything I'd made and have the opportunity to put it right, but just wasn't sure whether this is an occupational hazard of buying glass that I should just accept.

Hi Jill - sorry to be a bit late coming into this topic but I'm in complete agreement with everybody else in their comments - would definitely want to know and replacement/refund would be no problem

I would really want to know if my bead had cracked and would refund/replace immediately, no matter how long after the purchase.

I once made myself a bracelet with a set of beads that had been hanging round for months, no crack at the time of making but a year later I noticed a crack in one of the beads!!! I stopped encasing that frit blend after that

I bought a set of beads from a lampworker a short while back, and when they arrived about half of them had a hairline crack in them.  I contacted the seller, offering to send photos or the beads back - she was very apologetic and helpful, and made me a new set, which she sent out straight away (without requiring pics or beads, although I would quite have understood if she'd wanted either).  I felt terrible initially 'complaining' about them, but I was pretty sure she'd want to know - as she obviously did.  So far I've had nothing but great service from beaders, who in my experience are a friendly and honourable bunch.

If they were my beads I would want to know.... Im sure the beadmaker didn't know that they were/would crack... and if they are mine, please send them back

Rest assured everyone, it turns out it was one of mine and I am horrified

I will be refunding and will make another bead if required, but I am now worried about the glass I used, Cim.

Now I am put off from using this glass, or mixing it with another, as I am a perfectonist and don't want people to think I sell cracked beads

It happens to us all Ilona - I made a bead I really liked before christmas, it was faux boro and I liked it so much I kept it with the intention of using it with some pmc.  I was looking at my little stash of beads just after reading this thread and there were 2 dirty great cracks around and about the length of it  

Now that bead has just been sitting there and I've looked at it several times and there was no crack before I can only think it was the frit I used for the faux boro effect which caused it but I don't know and it's pretty annoying.

Nothing that can me done about it, Ilona. Your beads are gorgeous (I sneaked one out of the jewellery gubbins pack ) I went paranoid when I found my Windows to the Soul beads cracked, and was just waiting for emails...fortunately, it was as you say, probably just a glass combination.

Do you remember what the glassy combo was? Might be good to include a warning on the CiM wiki document...

I have just had that problem, sent out some beads and one cracked.  Thankfully lovely lady who has brought lots of beads and just said IOU in the future, was gutted that she had a broken one, but, glad I know and she will buy more.
