I came across an interesting post the other day about melting pieces of scrap glass (same COE) in a suspended clay plant pot in your kiln and allowing it to "pour" through an extended hole in the bottom onto a flat surface below.  The flat cicular pieces that reulted were wonderful - unfortunately I forgot to flag the link and cant find it.  Has anybody got details of how this is done?  What temps are required and what protected flat surface you can safely pour onto?  I would love to have a go at this and then try slumping the new sheet of glass into a bowl.

Obim running before he can walk again - but heh;)

You need to search on pot melt, it should bring up quite a lot of links.
Here's one

plus I think Stacy has done a few of these, she may see this and give you a few pointers :)

(oops - posted at same time Mary :))

You can see a pot melt of mine and some combed glass at http://kiloalphatango.com/my_version_of_the_multi_coloured_dreamcoat. If you do a search on that site,( my daughter's one) you'll find some pictures of early melts and possibly some of the set-up in my big ceramic kiln.

Stacy

I did one a while ago and used the top of an old cocktail shaker....

There is a thread around somewhere with the whole thing on it... might even include the 'how NOT to do it one' I did also. i'll go see if I can find it!

Stacy

Here is the thread.. the second page has the how to and the firing schedule I used...

Hope that helps.... don't forget to show us the pics!!!

I know this is quite an old thread, but I am thinking i may have a go as I have a few scraps building up.

But I don't know about opening the kiln, it scares me! The kiln in general is a little threatening, that you would find it in a dark alley cracking its knuckles  ::) but in the temperatures and opening it.

Great fun

I have done a few

My only tip is do not put much coloured glass in as I ended up with a muddy sludge brown disc for my first one.

But have fun with it
