I'm sorry for a stupid question (I couldn't seem to find the exact answer on the board)

I just set up my first kiln - a Bead Cube - yesterday, and did a batch anneal on the pre-programme 2. I was too wary to leave it on overnight, and I started the cycle quite late, so I had to stay up 'til four am to see if all was well ::) Anyway, it got down past 250, and started flashing 'hot' on the little controller panel every other second (which I couldn't find in the manual). The instructions said let it get to 250, then turn it off...so what with the little warning coming up, I turned the kiln off at the mains and went to bed. If the flashing 'hot' normal, and would the kiln have turned itself off eventually if I'd have left it alone?

(See...stupid questions :D)

Yes, my beadcube flashes 'hot'....though to be honest I have never stayed up long enough to see at what temperature it starts to do this!  :)
Usually I leave mine to anneal overnight and by the time I look at it in the morning it is at about 50 degrees or so and still flashing 'hot'. I just switch it off at the mains then, but if I leave it alone it eventually flashes 'End'.

Thank you - I'm relieved it wasn't some ominous warning flashing at me :-* :D

You know what, I had never noticed that Hot was not mentioned in the instructions.
I have had a look and it has half the sentence missing. It should say the display alternates between HOT and the temperature but it just says that the display alternates.

Anyway, the display will alternate between HOT and the kiln temperature once the last segment of the program has finished. It stays alternating until 50 degrees I think, or until the controller is turned off.

Sorry if we caused you any panic  :-\

Thanks for the quick response Lee :) At 4am, anything red and flashing looks a bit alarming :D
