Glass end caps

Not quite sure what to call this, so that's it.  I have a bead cooking at the moment which I have visualized, sketched and thought about for the past week - and most of it is perfect, just the way I wanted  it to be (well, sort of) except for the bit that I thought would be easy.  I wanted to put black 'end caps' on a clear encased focal and I couldn't get them to be the right shape, then overheated them so they blended with the clear - boo.  For future reference, could somebody give me some advice on how to do this without cocking up my entire bead.

The way I do it is to make a small black spacer close to the end of the bead. Heat it and gently marver until it joins the end of the bead.

I think that the trick is to work a little cooler and slower too
