hia, can anyone give me their successful programme for batch annealing in a Skutt hotstart pro! Am worried that i may have to buy a beady one cos i loose the silvered look sometimes to my silvered beads. It was recommended that i batch anneal at 516 degrees centrigrade, i do this for a couple of hours cos i have bigger beads in there too. But i had to knock it down to 490 in the end as the beads looked like they were burning a bit. I know the Hotstart in renounded for heating hotter than it says on the box but i wondered if my prob is that i'm heating the beads too hot, even though i have lovwered the temp.

Another thing i just thought i would mention is that while i have my beads hanging around waiting to be batch anealed, for days, they sometimes seem to loose the silvered look and go to pale greeen or whatever you would have got if u hadnt reduced...relatively speaking.

Hope that makes some kind of sense  to someone

Hi Tracy

I'm curious to understand what you mean by "burning a bit"? It could be the organics burning off the firing paper that they are on (if you use thinfire or fiber paper). Also, what type of glass are you using as we anneal Bullseye beads in a Hotstart Pro at 516 C and it works beautifully. Thanks, Pippa

Hi Pippa, i am using 104 Coe, on  6mm fibre paper that i use over and over again...the ivory gets like a transparent mustard colour look to it in places. thats what i mean by it looks like it has burnt a bit. Still did at 490 last night so might have to try lower, or it might be the silvered glass reacting...x

Yep, sounds like the yellow coming out of the silvered glass which combined with the ivory looks mustard. If it is, I'm not sure what you can do about it as the yellow will always out from silver!

yeah it does mostly but had beautifl perfect batch with Triton and ivory,,,i guess it was the batch of ivory, no yellowing at all. I wonder if it does it always with a kiln that you put the beads in as you work..probably looking at some work...but i think the ivory quality plays a part as well, sometime havent got silver glass in there when it does it...oh well...thanks anyway..x
