Anyone else having problems with Pulsar?

Feel like banging my head on a wall! tried using my pulsar the other day but its totally pitted all the beads i made i just etched them all to hide it.

I'm using a hot head on a bulk set up, anyone got any tips? I can't really afford to just throw it away to be honest

I've only made little spacers so far. The glass started boiling as soon as it touched the flame, but after a while it seemed to settle down as the rod heated through. A couple of the spacers have small bubbles but that's all. I'm wondering whether it might be best to heat plenty of glass on the rod first, before putting it on the mandrel. I'll try again with some bigger beads next time I torch.
