I've been putting together my new shedio over the past couple of months. I've insulated it and clad the inside with hardboard and painted most of the inside. I've got to the point where I can work out there but haven't for the last couple of weeks due to the temperature. When I went out yesterday I discovered that there is mold growing along all the seams of the hardboard and where it's nailed to the internal beams!  :(

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you treat it? Any suggestions would be really appreciated  :)

You can buy proprietary mould killers/inhibiters in DIY places like B&Q.  You could also try a strong solution of bleach/water - not as good but does the trick if there's not too much.

To stop it coming back, keep the shedio well ventilated and dry and seal the boards - paint them or paint the with PVA glue in a 50% mix with water.

All of the above and you can buy really economical low voltage wall heater tube thingy's that are just enough to keep damp away like these http://www.cnmonline.co.uk/Levante-Tubular-Heaters-pr-36214.html

I have heating in my shed, just enough to keep the damp away and so far no mould. My OH re felts insisted I had the roof refelted before the winter which I am sure has helped to as the first I would know about a problem with a leaky roof would be when its too late.

Thanks for the advice :)

I've got a heater out there but it hadn't occur to me to leave it on to drive off the damp whilst I wasn't out there. Think I'm going to get a dehumidifier as well to get it dried out and then treat all the wood with anti-mold stuff. I thought I was through having to spend money on the shed! LOL

If there's mould then are the battens/ beams damp, and if so where is it coming from? Is the shed lifted off the ground or is it sitting in water, in which case perhaps the water is wicking up the beams and making them damp?
I do hope it's not that, maybe it's condensation on the coldest bits of the inside of the shed.. ???

Air circulation issues can cause mould, as well as like a few other people have suggested that you should make sure everything is water sealed, put a fan in there open the door or window after you have sealed everything,, justifying wasting electricity (no matter how small the ammount is )  is stupid when you should resolve the mould issue!

it's off the ground on runners, and the outside has been treated with the proper stuff by the manufacturer, I had intended to give it another coat before winter set in but the weather has been terrible since It got put up so I've not been able to :(

It did seem a little better in there this morning, I left a heater on low and I've been airing it out during the day. Lets hope I can get it sorted!

Thanks again for the advice :)

Please be very careful if there is mold, make sure you ventilate it well before you go in there and while you are in there, the mold spores can be nasty!

My first concern would be to check that the insulation isn't moldy. If the mold is in the insulation you should probably take down the hardboard on the inside and replace the insulation.

with the cold weather it's possible that it's condensation.  I'd try the mould killer and maybe another vent or two in the walls. Wouldn't hurt to try the greenhouse type heater though.

I think it probably is just all the cold damp weather and lack of ventilation. I've kinda got used to the mold now, it's almost like a pet LOL! perhaps I've spent too long out in the shedio on my own!  :-\

My Vanio has this problem to, metal frames on the windows are dripping when I've spent a couple of hours on the torch, it is well ventilated and I wish for a dehumidifier but I did want one to stop the mould / damp in the house but my van will get turns I think.I have got paint called ducks back for the place  I know leaks but it can't be painted on until the temp reaches 5 degrees and it hasn't got there yet so I have bin bag and duck tape over place at present and it is working I think - no puddles at least
