can you use the controller from the other kiln?....dont know what err1 is but if there is no one nearer and you need a kcr 1/beadcube for the day (ish) give me a shout .....not sure how i would get it there but where there's a will .....

Lush!

I've got the Beadcube with its own controller so I'm fine for my teaching anyway - so I'm not as panicked as I could be!  Thanks for the offer though me lovely  :-*

Kaz

Swap the controller over to see if it's a kiln or a controller error?

She's made of real glass. She got real real emotion. But my heart laughs I have that same sweet devotion!

Lush!

Hmm, yes, I was just thinking that. I just had to go back out and switch off at the mains as I could hear the alarm going off again altho it's below 200 degrees now. There's a days work in there  :(

Bed now, I'll worry about it tomorrow.

Copy of the manual from here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/23478020/KCR1-Handbook

Error1 message is as follows:

Error 1

Kiln temperature not increasing as required. The kiln has been on full power for some time but the
temperature has not increased as expected.

Heater element failure. Low mains voltage. Kiln door not closed properly. Controller relay failure (open circuit).

Best thing to check is maybe that the kiln door isn't closed properly??

Lush!

Checked! I've got the manual and saw the words element failure - that's why I'm hiding under the duvet trying not to think about it!

Jolene

I had an Err 1 a short while ago Julie - plug something else in to the controller (lamp or something) and if the lamp doesn't work the controller needs replacing because the relay has gone.

Lush!

Really? I'll try that, thank you!

Julie what are you trying to do to me, I was only telling Jolene who unusual it was to have faulty KCR1 controllers and then this  ;D

Sorry I am so late in replying, I was out last night and have not got into work yet today.

Anyway, the best advice is inded to swap controllers or as Jo says, plug a desk lamp into the KCR1, leave the thermocouple plugged in and try to "fire" the lamp. If it lights it is a kiln issue, if it doesn't it is the controller.

At the risk of making myself sound like a tool for the second day running, I doubt it will be the kiln as we are yet to have an element blow in a Bead Cube.

Keep me in touch.
