Remember though that frit you make from104 rods will not be as rich in colour as the frit you buy where the colour is saturated and much more intense.

Absolutely!  The frit both Kaz and I sell is furnace glass for blowing.  It needs to be saturated so that when its blown out the colour is stil visible and vibrant.

So this 5% rule.... so long as I don't go mad and only roll the bead through the frit it is alright generally?

As well as using the frit maker that Martin sells, you can also put your bits into an old coffee grinder kept only for that purpose.But be aware to let the dusty part settle before opening and sieve to get differently sized fractions. I keep meaning to try this with some water in the grinder so that the dust is not airborn. I bought my grinder from a boot sale for silly money.
