Using an enamelling kiln to anneal

Hi again everyone, more kiln questions!

My friend has kindly offered the use of a little Uhlig U15 enamelling kiln while I try to make up my mind what kiln/kilns I'm going to buy.  Now, the big question is...can I anneal in it?  It has a controller, but this only has numbers on it 0-10 so I've no idea how to judge temps, and after looking on the internet I don't think it has a 'muffle'??



It's been PAT tested recently.

Has anyone any experience of these kilns or any idea if I can use it to anneal?

Hey up Buddy 

If you search "bead annealing kiln" on Ebay, it has a Uhlig model which is based on the one you have shown there.  I looked at it as an alternative to the Bead Cube.

It has a pretty extensive description and I think describes the difference between it and the Uhlig U15, which might be helpful!

I don't know about this model, but I suspect it's not going to have a very sensitive thermostat on it, but you might be able to use the controller kiln-care sell to give more acurate control over the temperature

I used one of these for a while with reasonable success, but I did rig up a thermocouple & digital temperature gauge, then had to manually ramp the temp up, hold it & ramp down a bit before turning off. Wasn't perfect but it was better than nothing!
