I'm making a knotted pearl necklace for my mum (if I can work out how!) for christmas but I'm a little confused about which thread I should use. Am I right in thinking that it should be silk? If so which thickness should I go for and can anyone recommend suppliers? Thanks!
Hello lovely lady, do you need special tweezers for that? I think I may have seen something like knotting tweezers somewhere, sometime but my braincells have all buggered off somewhere sunnier so I can't remember!
I saw a tut where you have a pin on a board...don't know where this tut was...but I saw it :-\
Yes, it should be silk, and the thickness depends on the size of the holes in the pearls.
There's an excellent pearl knotting vid on youtube - something like pearl knotting 101 I think.
I found this one

is it useful?

I like the griffin thread (with needle built in) - have a look here:

if they're potato or freshwater pearls, I generally use size 2 or 3.
Fantastic! Thankyou so much ;D
Hi Sal, I use non stretch Beadsmith thread, you can get it in loads of different colours to compliment what ever you are knotting, it does not rot like silk, if you knot a necklace with silk you need to re- string it maybe once a year. Beadsmith is strong and non stretch. I do all my pearls with this and never had any problems I also use a pair of very pointy ended tweezers. If you need more info you can pm me. Regards Karin
