Title: Power cord/cable for Paragon SC2 kiln
Post by: weejane on March 27, 2018, 01:11:23 PM
Does anyone have a replacement power cord/cable for a Paragon SC2 kiln? Mine recently got lost in a house move and I'm finding it really difficult to source. The newer kilns have plugs which are wired directly into the kiln, i.e. don't unplug at back of the kiln so Paragon can't help. I've tried contacting the seller and they can't help either. I'm concerned I buy the wrong thing and have a safety issue.

Alternatively if anyone has electrical know how and can direct me to the correct type of cable I need to buy I'd be very grateful. The details from the back of the kiln are:
240V
7 AMPS
50 HZ
1650 WATTS

Thanks,
Jane

Hi Jane,

A mains power lead with a 13 amp fuse will cope with that load comfortably. It's just a matter of finding the right connector to fit the kiln. Have a look at this electrical supplier's page, and see if you recognise it (PE1063 is a common general purpose power lead, but my kilns are all directly wired so I can't say without seeing it).

If in doubt, I'm sure Farnell customer services will help.

A pic of the plug on back of the kiln would be good, preferably with something to indicate dimensions.  I suspect it may be a 10A kettle connector, perhaps from a 2kW item.

Failing that type of connector being available, either 2mm^2 or 2.5mm^2 three core flex would easily suffice but the feed would need to be reconfigured behind a fabricated cover plate.  A normal modern cable gland could be used to ensure the lead is secure.  Likely an electrician type job unless you are competent in these matters.

Hi, The other place I'd try is https://www.paragonkilns.co.uk/, they have been able to get spare parts but not sure about power supplies. Might be worth a phone call though. Or if not http://www.kilncare.co.uk/partscare_spareparts.html might know how to get hold of one, they don't sell those kilns but may know about the power supplies or know a man that does so to speak. Good luck.

Because of storage issues, photo uploading directly to the forum is not possible.  If you check the forum, there are lots of helpful hints, here's the technical help board, posting photos guide is at the top (it's not been updated in a while though, internally things are the same, but hosting sites may have changed their layout)
