I have been away on holiday and seem some lovely glass sculptures and wondered if anyone can recommend a tutorial or book that can teach off mandrel work like that, making animals/plants ect (dinosaurs requested by my boys ::)). I generally work in effetre glass but would be willing to try borrow. can things like this be made i soft glass? ???

There is no reason they can't be made in soft glass, Lucio Bubacco makes some amazing scultural pieces in soft glass; its all about learning to work one from one end to the other so not to re-heat and shock areas already made. There aren't many books or tutorials around that I know of for soft glass, Pipry used to sell a few on Etsy for Boro, and Elizabeth Ryland Mears book 'Flameworking' has some good basic starting advice for sculpting with boro that you might find useful
I did a class with Marshall Hyde a few years ago - but never got very good at it! The important think is to leave little glass nubs where you want to add things later. Then you can go back later and gently heat the very end of the nub until it glows, and add more glass. Pull it gently to de-stress the join.
You might be able to find books or tutorials on Youtube for making flowers with separate petals; that would be a good place to start.
Thankyou, will have a look and see what i can find, will have a go with leaving glass nubs, sounds like i just need to play a while and experiment. Wish i could afford a class or two used my budget at flame off this year ;D so will have to save up i think
