Title: protectaclear
Post by: Edi (Edith) on January 10, 2015, 04:50:07 PM
I wonder if anyone uses protectaclear. As part of my first project for college I have made a couple of pieces of jewellery. These are made from mainly copper with some brass. If I am lucky enough it could be diplayed. I dont want it to tarnish so I have bought some protectaclear. I have never used this before and I wondered can you dip the jewellery into the protectaclear when it is prepared. It talks of 50ml to a bucket of water but I only need to mix enough for this project at the minute. Can anyone please help.
Happy New Year

I think the mixed version is for cars and large surfaces Edi.

The version I have is used neat. I just paint a couple of very thin coats on with a soft paintbrush, allowing to dry in between. You can use a sponge, but I found that didn't get into small spaces very well.

I bought it from everbrite and it said you can use it on jewellery. When I read the instructions I thought hecky thump how do I deal with this. I dont want to ruin what I have made because I like what  I have done.
It is from a test kit. Thankyou for your advice on how you use it. How do you preclean your items.

I tend to use it on pieces that have been fully polished Edi - either with radial discs or luxi on mops (which I use instead of tripoli and rouge), or have been tumbled to a shine - especially for oxidised items.
