I do love your headpins Linda!  I've had the bits and pieces for making some for a while - I think it's time I stopped my current addiction to making cabochons and tried making something new  ::)

Speaking of cabochons, two of my favourites from the past week or two:

I just had to try the bubble thing so I bought the bicarbonate of soda yesterday and here are my Experiments. I found I like the small Bubbles the best, and so of course found those most difficult to make. But 'I think heat the bead With the bicarb on it before encasing will help keeping the Bubbles small?
Funny how I, when encasing, still tried to encase without trapping air... you know... to avoid Bubbles.....

How safe are beads like this, will they crack easier?

I like the keyring idea, Like Pat said, simple but effective. This was a disc I made for a good customer of mine but forgot they didn't want bumps on the edge...that'll teach me to read orders properly before steaming ahead!

That keyring is great as everyone has said simple but effective, Helen beautiful disc but what a pain......I am guilty of not reading instruction of any kind properly which makes for interesting cooking as well as beadmaking!  Here is one from me I always love that anticipation of seeing it hot then seeing it cold!  We will be playing with this design on the course I am teaching at Tuffnells later in the year  ;)  You can also see what a tidy work bench I have thank god it is out of focus  :-\

fantastic colours Jennie  :)

This disc is a little more unusual although I have made one similar before, but this one is 50mm diameter! This was a custom order which I wouldn't normally have taken on except for the fact that a) I need the dosh and b) its a very good customer of mine.

I finally cut and polished the slice from the orange blob I made last month. I only managed 3 layers and my photography leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm happy with it as an experiment.

I don't recall seeing these before, and they are lovely as usual.

I haven't had much time at the torch lately, but I have finally started sorting out photos from a couple of months ago.
The main thing to report is that I have finally managed to produce something that looks recognisably like a petal bead. These are all my attempts so far; the bead in question is the smallish purple one in the middle (the one on the right then went a bit collapsey after I got too
ambitious). Helen G has nothing to fear from me, but I am feeling quite pleased with myself.

I saw her avatar and thought of this, (http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411076879.jpg) I was so tired after that I couldn't think what to put around all the blank white space. Thaks Gay. They have to be big to fit everything in. Here's a side view of my attempt at an octopus. It's 55mm long. I was going reasonably well until I got half way through the head and then it splurged,(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411108742.jpg) After I'd put it into the kiln, I realised I hadn't put the silvered stringer on the dots so pulled it out and did them, oh joy. While psyching myself up to do the octopus, I got rid of some of the bits of stringer on my desk by making this bead, (http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411108741.jpg)  and the other side, (http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411108739.jpg) I think I'll wait a day or so before attempting the octopus again.

I made 4 colourful beads yesterday and three using scraps of stained glass, cathedral glass which works in the flame like bottle. I'm only posting a few, (http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411120669.jpg)(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411120670.jpg)(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/24562400/411120671.jpg)
The green clear is reflecting the bead hole at crazy angles. I'm loving making these beads as I get to use up lots of bits of stringer saved up as I'm a skinflint who doesn't like to throw away any glass.

Almost a one-woman gallery so far this week - fantastic work Pat. My favourite is the first one in your last post - nice flowing shape, good colour combo. And great stuff from Gay, too - I love the Irina-style moth/butterfly. I'm still totally hooked on silversmithing just now, but have been out collecting a few dragon eggs to try to keep stocks up (largest one here about 48mm, just under 2 inch) - and I'm working on incorporating beads/cabs into some of my silvery projects, so maybe a proper combination of both next time...

silver all unfinished - further work needed on most of these and lots of polishing - pics not to scale relative to each other:

I forgot to add his syphons so he can't breathe and I also forgot to indent the few suckers I added. On the whole, though, I'm pleased.

Hi All, Can't believe I'm being brave and starting a gallery. Here are 2 lentils made from GemsInBloom's Magic Shard Tutorial. They are on a base of Luna 3, no idea if Luna is meant to go that orange/red colour but that's what I found in the kiln this morning!

Love those lentils, lovely colours, love the wonky hearts too.

Being brave now showing some lavender, I'm totally obsessed with making these, they have taken over from the peonies! Sorry about the size of the photo, will only put one in! also listed on Etsy and now off to make more...lavender...!

The middle bead is from a rod that looked white but must have had a bit of silver or something because it seems to have bled a bit like COE 104 ivory. That bead is 62mm long, about 2.5 inches in old money.

What, no gallery? No shiny glass to distract me in my lunchbreak?!

Go on then, seeing as I've *finally* got my shedio up and running and have some semi-presentable beads (only slightly wonky) to share I will start a gallery thread in the hope that some other newbies will join me. I have been mostly practising donut shaping, trying to identify some unlabelled frit, Helen G's stripe tutorial from soda lime times and fishscales. Any feedback/tips gratefully received! I tried to recreate the swirl bead I learnt at Jennie Lamb's workshop last year, but my tungsten pick decided it was going to rotate in the holder rather than swirl the glass  :'(

 Thanks Julia
I haven't done much lamp work lately as it's been too cold to have the doors and window open, must get an extractor.

Yesterday we heard a good friend of ours had been given some very bad news so I made theses earrings for her in colours she likes in the faint hope of bringing a bit of cheer.

They're the first earrings I've ever made. The two pairs on the right each have a bit of sand from our local beach, Aberporth, in them.  The one blue bead is a bit longer than the other, there're not perfect but they're made with love.

Am really loving the dichro Karen, really must get some ordered! And the horse is way beyond anything I could dream of doing Pat, any time I try sculptural it just goes blobby. Will keep practising and I'm sure the glass will eventually behave itself...

I had another go at the feather bead tutorial on Saturday, first with Helios and second with Boreas - the Boreas worked like a dream, but I need another try with Helios as I seem to have entirely lost all the goldstone stringer without a trace! Interesting ethereal effect though

Lovely work everyone.

As Julia asked for more beads to be posted I'll tuck theses in on the end of this gallery, they're not a patch
on everyone else's work but I was reasonably happy with the results so far and will keep on practicing.

I was trying to make some thin tubular 'Heart' beads to make earrings with. I wanted the hearts to be raised,
not quite a horse's head Pat but I'll be OK when I can make two the same and without over cooking the ivory!!

         They're 22mm Long.

Sophie's sister asked me if I'd make her three silver beads for a necklace. I've made a bunch of them and I
particularly like this one below, I used some very coarsely filed silver to get some nice big silver splashes.

Sand bead bracelet
This is my first attempt at a wire wrap bracelet. To make the beads I first made a small bead with the base colour and then hot rolled this onto sand taken from our local beach and then added a top layer of either coloured or crystal clear glass.

On a sad note, only two weeks ago, on the day that I made them, I posted an image of these earrings (below.)  I made them for a lovely friend of ours, Pauline, who has been battling with breast cancer for 5 years.

When she received them in the post she phoned me to say how wonderful they were, she was over the moon. Sadly Pauline has lost the battle, her husband has since told me that she was like a little kid with them and she was wearing a different pair each day. We knew that time was running out but it seems that this tiny gift ready did give a lot of pleasure in the short time left. Pauline's husband has told me that one pair will remain with her forever and that he will give the others to the girls how looked after Pauline.

We will of course give a donation for Breast Cancer Research but if someone is collecting for breast cancer research then I'd like to make and donate some article of jewellery for you to be sold for the cause. I imagine that there are a lot of folk out there raising money so I guess this offer will have to go to the first person that asks for the contribution.

          Kind Regards  . . . Andy

Thanks for the kind words.

I said that I wanted to make something that I could give to someone who is collecting for breast cancer research so I've made this blue and white bracelet. The length is 9 inches but as the beads are quite chunky I think it would fit most. The medium lapis blue and white beads are around 16 millimetre diameter.  The wire and fitting are silver plate as that's all I had.

If you would like this bracelet to raffle off I'd be very happy to post it off to you FOC, just let me know where to send it.

Sophie has just pointed out to me that the loop and 'T' bar could be removed and it could be used as part of a necklace.

Anyway, I hope someone collecting for breast cancer research takes up the offer.

I know I started this gallery on a sad note but as LampyLou asked last time, 'Please post more.' Pictures of your work here are a real inspiration for others, (and I wouldn't want it to be just pictures of my poor efforts.)

Moira - you and I were talking about boro frit - so here's an illustration: the second egg is made with the same colours as the first (plus a bit of one called Mai Tai Pink), but the main difference is that it's been rolled repeatedly in clear frit, while the other was simply encased using a rod of clear. You can see the marbling effect caused by each lump of frit melting in and the base colours melting up around it. In this case I used ungraded frit, all different sizes from powder to chunks, but you can get different effects with different grades.

Sorry for the awful photo... a week's worth of PPP and my vessels are a bit better, still struggling with consistent sizing though =/  Been trying to do 'ombre' or gradients, I think the ones in the opaque reds and transparant teal-turquoise have worked best =)  I've given up on handles and am going to wire wrap them until my skills are better!

Lovely pate de verre!  I love to look at them but I'm scared if I saw one in real life I'd sneeze and it would disintegrate!  Part of the magic of the method =)

I've finally made a vessel I feel happy enough with to share - it's weeny - three quarters of an inch from top to base.  I keep wanting to stroke it!  Also been working on improving my photography recently.  Still need to work on dot placement!!

Ooh, wow, the poppies...

I've taken some pictures for the first time in months, so there may be a bit of a hog coming up soon.
Maybe this one belongs in the "first beads" section, but here it is anyway: my first ever attempt at a certain popular form. I'm sort of scared of sculptural stuff, so the fact that other people found this recognisable is quite satisfying. I think I will try this again.

It's been how long since the last gallery? Clearly, what with Christmas less than two months away, no-one's made anything lately... no, wait, that doesn't sound right.
Come on then, you lot, show off; the nights (and days) are getting colder and darker, and I could do with a bit more eye candy.

Let's start with something, then. This is one of my favourites from the last few months; not quite just-out-of-the-kiln new, but I haven't blogged it yet.

What beautiful beads!

Now, lowering the tone a bit: knobs!

I wanted a couple of little screw-in knobs, so I wired steel screws onto the end of 3.2mm mandrels, wrapped a blob of boro around the end and dabbed them in boro frit. Nothing fancy but quite functional  :)

The christmas flowers are very festive and pretty.

The knobs are very nice, great idea.

Mine isn't jewellery, but still having fun fusing, even more so now I've found slumping. Am loving that when I don't have enough time to torch, I can cut some glass, ready to fuse when I'm busy doing other stuff. (apologies to those that have seen it on facebook)

They are pretty, Quirky, I do like those sycamore leaves and autumn colours.

Here's an effort from me - apologies for the poor photo. It's my first attempt at beads with dichro (thanks for the supplies, Jammie!) and my first attempt at making and using latticino cane.
The nugget in the middle came off the beads release before I finished so I just paddled it into some kind of shape. I quite like it's rough sparkly simplicity!

I think having one gallery for a whole month is a good idea, let's do that. Otherwise you get whole weeks without one.

The little leaves are so cute.
Moira, you've got some lovely bits of latticino and sparke going on there.
And Linda, have I mentioned I love your headpins? Because I do.

Here's one from my most recently uploaded batch of pictures. In an attempt to rationalise my stuff into fewer mutually incompatible sections, I've been trying to use up a few rods of COE90 I've had lying around for a while. Some Bullseye (and brass) here:

Oh it's so lovely to be here again and drool over all the lovelies. I've been very busy recently but I'm hoping to have a bit more time to pop in more. Here's my latest offering.

I agree with the comments on the previous gallery, a monthly gallery is a good idea.  I think this might be the first time I've ever started one!

I've recently broken the 5cm diameter cabochon barrier - yay for a bigger oxycon!

I've tried my new ornate bead roller from Danielle!
More practice definitely needed, but I've made a start.

(Can anyone give me tips for how to use this sort of roller best?)

Hi Moira,

it's definitely a tricky bead roller to use. A friend showed me how to use a thick stringer to add glass to the shoulders - not the edge which helped. You can also gently roll the bead towards to front edge to define the shape. How that makes sense.

Hi
What a lovely collection of work. I haven't posted for ages and haven't had much time for beading, but here are a few cabs made after attending Manda's excellent class a few weeks ago. Still a long way to go .....

Nice cabs, I particularly like the top right one.

I'm trying to figure out a few designs at the moment, and this lot's the work in progress:

I made my first cabs at the weekend - nowhere near as good as the ones above, but I was pleased to make two that matched well enough to make up into cufflinks. These are now on their way to a friend for Christmas.
