Title: Free tutorials
Post by: cbeadies on December 02, 2014, 10:31:18 PM
I noticed today that Laura Sparling is now generously offering her tutorials free of charge, I found some of them very helpful when I started lampwork.
Although it is a shame that new tax regulations seem to have made it over-complicated to sell them now.

Those are really nice tutorials - thanks for the link- what's the change in tax law that you're referring to? It does seem a shame that these wouldn't be sold.

This is the latest, which helps if you only sell your digital downloads in the UK or outside the EU - but if you still want to sell to the EU you need to register for VAT, the £81k threshold will not apply from 2015

Thanks for that - interesting... Seems like another messy tax law...

Wondering if you could get round this by offering tutorials free, but asking if people would like to make a donation to help fund future tutorials?  Would rely on the generosity of people of course, but the glassy community is usually very community spirited.

The tax office have thought of that one and the answer I got is that you'd be liable to pay VAT on donations form the EU as it's still income resulting from the sale of a pdf.

What some of the knitting designers are planning to do is simply refunding any EU sales in full - so no funds received and no VAT due.
