Title: Cake stands
Post by: Tuliphenderson on September 08, 2014, 09:21:25 AM
Morning, I want to make some cake stands as gifts, any ideas for bases to raise them? and what would be the best way to attach them. Thanks

Thanks for the link - that's given me another idea! But I was actually looking for something in glass and to just have one cake plate. Sorry I didn't make myself clear.

I've seen cake stands done quite nicely with charity shop dinner plates and matching/contrasting cups or glasses stuck together with superglue.

If your plate is going to be glass that you've made, then you could look in charity shops for a nice, unusual glass to raise it up, and go from there with your plate design. The old 'babycham' style champagne glasses might look nice - you know the ones with a shallow bowl on top rather than a tall flute design.
