So, the colours for the month for October 2013 Eggplant (this will be CiM 511655) I just LOVE this colour
Come on let's see your creations!
Good luck!
Oooo! Love eggplant.
Hmmm, will have to get my thinking cap on...
ohh .. haven't used this in ages!
Yesss! I was just thinking about how I should play with that stuff more...
Ooh - haven't got any of that ... might have to place an order! (oh dear ... ;))
Here are some simple and unspectacular beads I made yesterday.
Eggplant with mica powder, with dichroic stringer (which doesn't really show up) with Z99 frit and with triton dots.(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3682/10118865366_945748de73_n.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/10118865366/)

Beautiful, Helen! :)
Gorgeous Helen x
They are stunning Helen. I WAS being good and not buying glass just so as I could join in here, but now I've seen how lovely those are I'm seriously tempted.... perhaps if I get my gas issues sorted before the end of the month.

Sorry - made me smile ::)
I may have to buy some glass to participate as well. I just checked my starter pack and I'm not lucky enough to have any of this in it
Lovely Helen, BTW!
Not THAT kind of gas! :)
Although, it'd be an cheaper alternative....I wonder if there's a conversion kit.....
Helen those are a lovely colour. I'll have to root through my stash now I can see it properly to see if I have an odd rod.
We love those beads, Jen loves purples.
Have ordered some Eggplant, so will be making soon! :)
I've made a focal (it's about 4cm long); not sure what I'll do with it yet.

It only became that colour (in the middle) after it came out of the kiln (I anneal from cold). When it was first made, it was much darker, almost a dark brown. Is that normal?
Love those beads Helen and Demented Magpie that focal is very pretty too :) I dont think I have any eggplant but off to check and see .

These are made with eggplant
Rachel ,they are a lovely deep purple, mine seem to lighten in the kiln, so not having much success.
Gorgeous beads Rachel:)
Apologies for the crappy photo - it's barely been daylight here today. These are eggplant and cardamomm.
Some of them have cracked though, strangely just at the eggplant end... grrr

Lovely beads - agree that Rachel's got a lovely purple from her Eggplant. Mine always seems to be a bit brownish. Not sure I particularly like this colour, having used it again for this challenge.
Lovely! I can't get that colour for some reason, mine ends up rather more... pink? maroon? definitely not purple enough.
I mixed the aubergine with pastel yellow.

The middle one has a bit of red enamel (I think) and a bit of periwinkle too.
The more I worked it, the more it seemed to break up - the two on the left were worked quite cold, while the two on the right were longer and hotter.
I rather like the textures I got out of it - could get more interested in this colour ... :)
ohh nice!
This is one of my favourite colours, being as I adore anything purple!!!!!!

Oooh! Lovely purple beads! ;D
I never usually use this colour because it cracks when encased but I will try and come up with a non encased idea for the challenge...
Wow Kathy what a lovely focal
Rachel the colour you got on those beads is gorgeous
Lou, really like that colour combination shame it cracked :(
Lovely beads Jane and agree what lovely texture
Gaynor they are lovely and purple is my favourite as well :)
Kathy, thanks for the heads up as I am hoping to do this one but didn't realise it didn't like encasing!
MyPrecious - good to know - was going to try some fancier ones ... thanks!
Last time I used it was a few years ago, so maybe the newer batches are better. I will make a floral with it to try again.
Lots of lovely beads so far!
I tried this with some teal and ochre decoration, it's a curious glass somehow, almost has a 'curdled' look at times. The teal seems to react with it and the yellow looks darker than I was expecting. The eggplant looks a rather different shade at the ends of the beads than on the decorated area.

I love anything and everything purple........eggplant beads are all fab. cheers claire Xx
Nice work, everyone! Here are my eggplant beads. Not a good photo, sorry, I took them outside, and the light is wrong (but better than when I used the flash indoors!). The left hand one has frit on (can't remember which), the right hand one has SIS and dots of heffalump and (I think) aurae, and the bottom one is a floral BHB.

The 3 with frit on the left have yet to be annealed so are still 'eggplant coloured'. The others all lightened once annealed and the 'curdled' look become more pronounced. There seemed to be a huge variation of end colour, just look at the BHB on the right, he's much lighter than the rest (also will have been the one I worked longest). I don't dislike the effect but I loved the colour before annealing too.
I also had a little play with plunged dots and even achieved 2 beads similar enough to make a pair...

Thank you so much Jellybean for the generous parcel including some eggplant so I could have a play.
Drum Roll......
The winner for Octoberis....
Nammie.
Well done. I shall PM you in a mo.
Thank you to everyone that's entered this month's challenge. Ta - Krysia
Congratulations, Nammie! :D
Nick
OoooOOOO! Thank you!
I feel a little shopping coming on....
Congrats Nammie. Early christmas present :)
Thank you Lou. I see you won the other challenge, are you having the same dilemma as me? Tools or glass? "I'll be able to do xyz with one of those..." versus " Preeeeety colours!"
Well done Nammie!
