The theme of the month challenge is jointly sponsored by Tuffnells Glass (thank you Martin et al!) and Frit Happens!
Each month the lucky winner, chosen by a random number selector, will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend on-line with Tuffnells. The draw will take place at the start of **November** so make sure you get your entries in before midnight on the last day of October to be in with a chance to win the goodies!
Please note that the entries should be new work.
So, the theme for the month for October 2013 is Halloween.
(I know this is a bit predictable for this month, but I have seen some great stuff going up and I would love to see people giving it a go!)
I feel more able to tackle Halloween than Birds!
ooooohhh ghosts, pumpkins, whitches and wizards, SWWEEEETTTSSSS
I'm starting to really enjoy these challenges.
My entry for this month is Wanda the witch :)

Oh Lou that's so cute!
A quick question if you don't mind ... do you go straight from mandrel to kiln? I tried a similar shape bead (a mushroom!) and the rim snapped off in the vermiculite.
Very unlikely you could make a bead that big/detailed without a kiln I am afraid.
Hi Helbels - I've got a kiln (SC2 with bead door), but have been annealing in verm first, then removing from mandrels and annealing in kiln. Will have to pluck up the courage to pop them in while it's on!
Yep. Straight from the flame to the kiln.
Love the witch !
Fantastic witch!!!! I have a few spooky goings on in the kiln today. I love Halloween! My normal wardrobe was meant for Halloween!!!!! Not too long ago I was walking to t'pub as one does on a Friday night, and some kids shouted "Lady, It's not Halloween yet!"!!!!! A Bat is not just for Halloween ;-)
Great theme x and fabulous start!
Great witch Lou. :)
These are my first attempts at Day of the Dead decorated skulls.
I'm hoping they will improve with practice!

I may reattempt these!!!!!
They're so cute - sorry if you were shooting for scary ;)
The spider is my favourite. Looks like the one that scampered across the rug and under my tv last night :o
Love the witchy, ghosty, pumpkin and spider ! Im trying to think of something to make cos im actually going to have a go on the torch today woohoo.
I made a hungry flying pumpkin monster creature!
(scuse the crack ... it was a bit big for the vermiculite!)
He looks like a very happy monster Jane :)
It's a good start Jane. If you make another, try squishing the green "wings" with your tweezers as that will turn them into fins.
Aww thanks Skyblue.
Pat - I did squish them with tweezers but didn't want to make them too thin after my previous attempt at larger wings (a month or so ago) cracked off while I was working on it, poinged across the kitchen and set fire to the back doormat! Also I knew I was vermiculite annealing so wanted to make sure they had a chance of survival! Next time I'll put the kiln on before I start ...
Purplecobwebs - love the eyes on your spider, and your pumpkin has a real air of menace ...
I tried a Halloween jellyfish. (I will be having another go to try and get the tentacles more opaque).

those are great beads! I really like the spider, it has attitude!! And oh so beautiful jellyfish. I hope I can learn how to do that one day.
Another great jellyfish Heather, and Jane, try leaving the squishing to last thing you do.
Wow these are all so great.....what variety and super ideas. Xx
Love the witch, Jellyfish and spider! Here are a pair of rather strange zombies

I considered bats and cats and even pumpkins but decided I had all the necessary skills to represent ectoplasm :) (He's not quite just a blob, he is hollow under his 'skirt')
Gaynor (Purple Cobwebs) had the same idea, too! Yours is the smiliest.
Nick
I think both your's and Gaynor's are in the style of 'The Scream'. Rather than inspired by fine art, mine is more a la Ghostbusters :) Or perhaps Caspar with the smile :)
Heheh, I love the zombies!
Thanks, Heather :).
Anna, my ghost isn't screaming, it's going 'Whoooooooooooooooo!', as all respectable ghosts do ;D! When they're not screaming or smiling, of course. ;)
Nick
Fair enough, sorry Nick, he just reminded me of that painting, can't remember the artist but it must be popular as it seems to get stolen a lot :-)
It was Edvard Munch. When my daughter had just started secondary school she had to do a copy of The Scream for Art. we researched it and found he had drawn it with wax crayons, so she did the same, and did such a good copy that she got 6 out of 5! I was very proud of her! (I still am :D)
Nick
That's the guy! Was on the tip of my tongue, honest:-) As will be apparent from my work, I didn't do gcse art
Love all beads ! The zombies are fun and so are the ghosties on here :)
Ha Ha, cute zombies! And love the friendly ghost!!!
Thank you all for your comments on my zombies! They were fun to make. :D
Nick
Drum Roll......

Congratulations, Glassy Lou! Cool witch. :D
Nick
Oh yay! Thanks very much. That's made my day! X
