The theme of the month challenge is jointly sponsored by Tuffnells Glass (thank you Martin et al!) and Frit Happens!
Each month the lucky winner, chosen by a random number selector, will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend on-line with Tuffnells. The draw will take place at the start of **May** so make sure you get your entries in before midnight on the last day of Aprilto be in with a chance to win the goodies!
Please note that the entries should be new work.
So, the theme for the month for March/April 2012 is Books... (this can include what you find in the books, if you are picking a particular book then please tell us what it is)
Interesting ....
I'm hoping this one has lots of scope!
Oh, I like this theme.
Interesting...Will have to think hard about this one.
Do books about lampwork count?
...
OK, I'll get my coat...
... good point... Yes it's a book!
Does the first one who produces 50 shades of grey get a special prize or shot?
both... the prize being getting shot...
Made my book themed beads today, a pair of beads representing 2 of the main things in a book I loved. I think the idea is sound, but the execution is probably not great, though I was quite pleased with them. We shall see when I get them out of the cooling bubbles, which will probably be on Sunday.
excellent!
Ok, here we go... this month's theme wasn't easy for me as I'm not wildly imaginative... but I hereby present to you:
"The Golden Snitch" (from the Harry Potter books)

So much prettier in real life - it has a golden dichro core and the gold leaf sets it off really nicely.
oooh gorgeous, love it :)
Love it :)
It's fab Helen.
50 shades of ...........(again I have a lickle drinky poos
I'm on a diet Sundays don't count - according to my Nephew (12) his RE teacher says that Sundays don't county towards lent!
Love that Helen
I love the idea and the bead.
Oh er, first go at focals & first time submitting something to a Monthly Challenge!. I made these yesterday, doing a simplified version of Shelley Bellamy's tutorial. Not ready for the whole thing yet! How about '20,000 leagues under the sea'?!

Oh! Why isn't the picture there? :-\
I don't know (someone else will) but they are lovely beads well done
I can see them, and they are blumming gorgeous missus!
I can see them too :) very nice beads !
Another Harry Potter reference. Acid yellow (hmmm, why am I using that?) this time paired with Slytherin.

These didn't look much on the mandrel and quite nasty in a heap while being cleaned, but when I threaded them together for photographing I thought they looked quite good together.
"Life of Pi"
(the orange is less red IRL)
Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy? ;)

Trouble with being given such a broad theme to play with is that I had no idea even where to start, so I'm very impressed with the rest of you for actually managing to pick particular books.
I still have no idea what's in my book, but it does have marbled end papers:

Credit where it's due: I have my mate Gwen to thank for this idea.
I think this may end up as a bracelet (strung on knotted leather, perhaps?) Also, the base colour for the bead in the middle, and half of the one on its right, was the rod labelled "tongue pink" in my mixed pack. Could have fooled me; I now think its other name of "striking terracotta" refers to it being thrown in the clay plant pot with the rest of the eff white.
Just sneaking under the wire with yet another Harry Potter ;D

Hi Gaynor,
I love your caterpillars, especially the different expressions on them. Lovely interpretation of the theme.
Mark
Thanks Mark x ;D
They are cute. I like the blue one
Lovely caterpillars, so clever to use the bead hole for a mouth! The expressions are priceless, they seem to be gawking at the butterflies in disbelief. :)

Bright and fun beads - inspired by a book title (I've not long read) called Summer Daydreams by Carole Matthews!
Ok, my entry was inspired by a new glass book that arrived on Saturday. It's called 'glass bead jewelry projects' and the beads in the picture were the result.

Have to say that I hadn't realised how much fun silver ivory stringers were and just how easy they are to make.
Mark
Pretty, Mark! Yup, I love silvered ivory.
I made... a somewhat messy book! Have plans for some more things but I don't know if I'll get them done this month.
