I even made this using some of my first beads.  Not been at all crafty recently.

Title: bangles galore
Post by: mizgeorge on January 07, 2013, 06:15:27 PM
A couple of recent commissions. The first one was for a very special lady on her wedding anniversary

(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8206/8284708207_d8442e8076.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mizgeorge/8284708207/)

And this one I commissioned from myself as a gift for my mother. Birthstones for her husband, daughters and grandchildren - round cabs on smooth bangles for the girls, and faceted gems on hammered for the boys.

Title: Chain mail necklace

I have finally got round to finishing a chain mail necklace that I started months ago.

It must have taken me about 10 hours in total opening and closing about 350 4mm jump rings. Veryleased with the canal result.

Title: A few more bits of stringing - I'm trying to tame my lampie stash! [HOG]
Post by: nemeton on February 02, 2013, 11:32:39 PM
And also having a few problems with fingers at the moment so stringing is easier than my usual seed beading with the little tiny things  ::)

This isn't actually lampies but it is a selection of Tan's fabulous ceramics. The pendant is reversible to that lovely spotty blue. I'm keeping this one for me  ;D
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/tanht3.jpg)

These beads by Caroline Hannon have been in my stash for ever... still can't decide whether the warm colour in that frit is pink or brown but it goes well with copper either way
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/smbluecopper2.jpg)

These three Whistler Lampwork beads were some of the first lampies I ever bought and I can't understand why it took me years to use them - added a bit of sparkly sunstone and some rhodonite (at least I think I mean rhodonite unless I'm getting my mineral names mixed up) and copper
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/whistler2.jpg)

Some gorgeous lavender/blue colour changing glass beads by Special Kay, with George's classy bead caps and ear wires by Dilunah - I do love mixing my makers  ;D
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/lavender3.jpg)

Some Vicki Honeywill orphans with faceted pearls, marble and hematite
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/slick2_zpse165fea5.jpg)

and last but not least two sets of Tan's little fritty etched tabs that said they all wanted to play together to make something beachy and tropical  ;D
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/tantabset_zps06b1e4ac.jpg)

There still seem to be a LOT of lampies in my storage box... and thanks to you lot and your gorgeous gallery threads, I've just bought some more... I am a hopeless case  ::)
Title: Using up orphans
Post by: Purple Cobwebs on February 03, 2013, 11:30:07 AM
I decidedto use up some orphans to make a necklace and some earrings to go out in last night!

The white beads are made from glow in the dark glass!!!!

Title: Upcycling!
Post by: Purple Cobwebs on February 03, 2013, 11:58:57 AM
I was given a broken necklace and an old bracelet. After cleaning up the beads I teamed them with some red crystals and some seedies to make this...

And this was made from some awful acrylic beads that I won!!!! They don't look too bad teamed with plain black beads!!!

Title: Lampwork necklace commission in teal and turquoise
Post by: marklaird on February 04, 2013, 08:20:11 PM
I got a request last week from a colleague at work for a teal and turquoise necklace, with some silver bits. So, keeping it simple, this was the result.

(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8334/8444789805_84f2be5dbc.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hazelhousejewellery/8444789805/)
Teal and turquoise necklace (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hazelhousejewellery/8444789805/) by Marklaird (http://www.flickr.com/people/hazelhousejewellery/), on Flickr

The client seemed to like the initial photo ideas, and I kept it within her budget, so tomorrow I get to see whether she likes the finished article.

All the beads are made by hand, still can't get the hand of these roller dangles things so really pleased with the consistency and shape of the glass.

Title: Think pink - with huge apologies to Tina
Post by: mizgeorge on February 06, 2013, 09:01:06 PM
I have finally sent poor Tina her raffle prize - I'd faffed around with this for far too long, but only last week found some stones I was happy with for the charm. I was astonished how much harder it is to flush set a tiny (1.7mm) ruby than the big stones I'm used to dealing with. I think I need a chat with my optician!!

Tina - I'm so sorry - and I hope you like it!

Title: A couple of quickies - Tan earrings and Marlene pendant
Post by: nemeton on February 08, 2013, 06:04:46 PM
Still trying to stick to my 'make a thing a day' challenge for 2013, haven't missed a day so far although yesterdays's thing got done at five to midnight...

It's a fabulous Marlene Minhas lentil from my lovely lovely GBUK prize stash from the year before last, with one of George's genius lentilcap sets and a Sowzere silk ribbon that matches the glass much better than it seems to in the photo  :)

And the day before yesterday's thing was a little pair of earrings with some funky Tan beads I've had for ages - love the bumps on these, they look like little pairs of beady eyes  :)

No idea when I'm going to get today's thing made or what it'll be  ::)
Title: Labour of Love!
Post by: Kaz on February 10, 2013, 10:20:39 AM
I made these hollows in Oz requested by my friend Sally and inspired by the Kerry Bogert book Rustic Wrappings - but it has taken me a while to work out how to make a necklace from them (previous attempts were too fussy!). It's Sal's birthday next month - so here is the finished item (along with co-ordinating birthday cardi!). This was a lot of beads. I strung them on leather to cope with the weight/bulk and used this amazing silver clasp which was a gift from George. I have to say I am rather pleased with it....whether I can muster up the energy to ever make another is a different matter

Title: Rings and Pendant
Post by: Lush! on February 13, 2013, 02:23:56 PM
I took my rather large boxful of new cabochons to George's house yesterday, and she taught me how to set a cab to make an amazingly gorgeous ring or pendant.

Title: Beads by Sally and clasp by George...
Post by: nemeton on February 24, 2013, 05:16:15 PM
... and a bit of grownup stringing for a change  ;D

I had totally forgotten I even had these encased Red Hot Sal lentils, found them lurking in my lampie stash while I was looking for something quite different  ::) But I'm glad they'd lurked for long enough for me to acquire these blue dyed agates (or are they jade? either way they're a lovely translucent denim blue) because nothing else in my entire bead collection was the right shade of blue! I added haematite, a fine silver pendant from Becci Crabtree that had also been lurking in a box for an embarrassingly long time, and one of George's elegant hook clasps. I am sorely tempted to keep this...

I made a necklace similar to this a while ago and have had lots of positive comments about it - mine is in warm ivory and roof ile red tones.  I enjoyed making the beads so much that I made some intending to put them with some blue agate chips I got at Harrogate but in in the end thought they went better with these ivory seed beads - same as my own.

Title: I guess I can show you now... my GBUK piece
Post by: nemeton on April 08, 2013, 10:18:41 PM
I am very chuffed and a bit gobsmacked to have won the GBUK jewellery competition... here are a few pictures ;D

Not brilliant pictures I'm afraid - will I never learn not to use pastel colours and white in things that I need to take decent photos of?  ::) - but I hope they'll give you an idea.

I had real trouble choosing between 'Nursery Rhymes' and 'The Final Frontier'! I was briefly tempted to try to render Captain Kirk and Mr Spock in beadwork, but decided that would be beyond me... and then I was doing an FHFteam search on Etsy (as you do, or at least you do when you are me and a total bead addict  ::)) and saw some lovely rosebud beads by Cecilia Lawrence (Midget Gem Beads). 'Ring A Ring A Roses' popped into my head and refused to go away.

Rings of roses? Yes, those I could do. But I needed something else to make the design specific to this rhyme and give it an edge, otherwise it would be just another pretty necklace with pretty flowers on it. I almost gave up and went back to the Final Frontier idea... then I started thinking, perhaps Kirk had it all wrong and death, not space, is the final frontier... and remembered that Ring A Roses has a myth attached to it, one that has been debunked many times but still persists, the idea that it's about the Black Death.

'Atishoo, atishoo, we all fall down.'

Yes, that was my edge, and a way of combining both themes, and a macabre twist that appealed to my wicked side :P If I could find some little lampwork skulls, I could make little wreaths of little dead people to go in amongst my pretty flowers and beaded bead posy pomanders  ;D

'Ashes in the water, ashes in the sea, we all jump up with a 1 - 2 - 3!'

And I could put little specks of ash grey in amongst the pretty colours, and use marble spacer beads for a hint of tombstones... oh yes, I was having fun thinking outside the box!

So I put out a call on here for someone to make me some little skulls, and the lovely Ruth of AR Beads answered it and made exactly what I wanted (even though at that stage I couldn't tell her exactly what I wanted them for  :-X) and they worked brilliantly ;D

Of course the piece was made at the last minute and in a big rush and there are things about it that I probably should have done differently, but it made me smile and thankfully it hit the right note with the judges too  ;D

It was fun working with beads by FHFteam makers whose beads I hadn't used before - it's always nice to spread the love  :) Huge thanks to both of you ladies, this win is a team effort really!  ;D

Title: New bracelet with sandblasted beads

A new bracelet - leather and sandblasted beads - to match the new spring color: yellow.

Title: This weekend's lampwork substitute
Post by: Aruala on April 23, 2013, 10:35:42 PM
This weekend, my partner in crime brought round our glass stash, the torch, the safety glasses.... but forgot the tiled board that stops us burning either of our houses down when we drop hot glass. So instead of the lampwork I was planning, I got forced to fall back on silversmithing for my crafty fix and made this ring with the last of my silver sheet.

I have the board now so I won't be foiled again this weekend!

This is my first reasonably successful attempt at more "sculptural" beads, or at least ones that aren't either round or shaped with a press. It's not exactly new - the beads were made a few weeks ago, and I showed off the finished article at Flame Off a bit, but it only reached its final destination last Thursday. The final destination being a friend of mine, last Thursday being her birthday.
She seems to like it rather a lot, so I'm feeling pleased with myself.

I love working with graduated chains, and have been meaning to make more of these for ages, so took the opportunity of needing to cut some rings in very specific sizes for a lovely customer to do some for these at the same time.

Title: Failed pot melt
Post by: Pat from Canvey on May 10, 2013, 09:53:58 AM
I did this pot melt ages ago and it subsequently cracked. I kept the biggest piece as I hate to throw any glass away. I also misjudged the colours and the amounts of each I used. On the spur of the moment I decided to cut it to shape, fire polish and wrap it in some wire for practice.
It's about 12.3 cm with the wire loop so far too big and heavy for a pendant but at least I used up the piece of failed pot melt and got a bit of wire practice.

I had a good weekend making things for the fair in 10 days time. Thought I would share them here too.

Got some more cufflinks on the go, so hopefully will have all bases covered for the fair, men, women, kids (got some fish beads on tags for them, not toys though).

Title: OCD Disc Series jewellery.... A story
Post by: helbels on June 02, 2013, 11:16:16 AM
As some of you may already be aware, a few weeks ago, someone on the forum posted a link to www.colour-designs.co.uk, and a few of us admired the lovely polymer clay jewellery on there - not least me, and I ended up buying this lovely necklace for myself:

(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7421/8922386348_d230e23197.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8922386348/)
Polymer Clay (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8922386348/) by Alchemy Lampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/helbels/), on Flickr

This website prompted some discussion among a few of us as to whether it would be possible to achieve something similar in glass.  I decided to set out to try (although I accepted from the start that achieving the same bright colour palette probably would not be feasible).

My first attempt was done using an existing mixed Bev Pegasus beadroller that I had, and as a result I produced this:

(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5344/8751424016_c4d2a64b48.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8751424016/)
IMG_0128-001 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8751424016/) by Alchemy Lampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/helbels/), on Flickr

(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7356/8750299111_2092d6994b.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8750299111/)
IMG_0134 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8750299111/) by Alchemy Lampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/helbels/), on Flickr

Now, nice as the necklace is, I wasn't satisfied for a few reasons:

1) The discs are a LOT bigger and wider than the original inspiration piece
2) The original piece is more delicate and has a lot more discs, which gets more colour into the piece.

Some head scratching ensued.  I decided that I'd never be able to make discs as narrow as in the inspiration piece, as it's just not feasible to get a glass footprint as thin as polymer clay on a mandrel and still retain the structured, flat edged look to the discs.  However, I thought I might be able to go as narrow as 4mm if the right tool could be found to let me do it.

In very OCD fashion, I therefore decided to commission a bespoke roller from Graphite Girl, who's advertised on the forum over the past few weeks (yes, when I get an idea into my head, I'm not easily deterred!  ;D).  I decided I'd try to mimic the diameter of the original discs (10mm), but also have a few graduated sized cavities to let me go bigger if need be.  So, my special tool was commissioned and arrived last week:

(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5323/8922459178_241c69cd78.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8922459178/)
IMG_0005 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8922459178/) by Alchemy Lampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/helbels/), on Flickr

(Incidentally, since I got this roller made, Bev Pegasus has brought out her new mini rollers, which include a disc one that would achieve pretty much the same thing - sod's law that I commissioned this one, before this happened!)

So, yesterday I sat down to have a go with it.  Well OMG, after half an hour I was pretty sure I'd commissioned an unusable tool!  It turns out that making discs this narrow is blooming difficult  :o.. the problem is that the glass is gripping the mandrel on such a tiny footprint that as soon as you start to try and shape, the bead release tends to break.  Arrgh.  The large diameter discs are even harder than the little ones!  So, I quickly decided to limit myself to the smallest cavity (10mm x 4mm) to avoid giving up due to frustration.

So, after a lot of toil, kilning overnight, cleaning etc, I am proud to present my finished bracelet and earrings.   There are 40 discs in the bracelet, some are etched for variety, and the earwires are by Mizgeorge:

(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3667/8925023928_7e5b3d4b08.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8925023928/)
IMG_0002 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helbels/8925023928/) by Alchemy Lampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/helbels/), on Flickr

It's very pretty on, and I think I've captured the spirit of the original.  It also goes very well with my Links sweetie bracelet.   I might even attempt a matching necklace, which I've worked out will need at least 108 discs.. but I think I need a lie down in a darkened room first!   ;D

So, to answer the original question - YES, it is possible to achieve something similar in glass to what Claire from www.colour-designs.co.uk does in polymer clay, provided you are OCD and a bit unhinged.    Incidentally, for those of you who worry about such things, I let Claire know what I was up to, and she was fine with the concept of me trying this in glass.

Thanks for reading!  :D

Title: A Copper Necklace
Post by: Shirley on June 05, 2013, 06:05:44 PM
I made this copper necklace for a good friend. Over 20 years ago we both went to Paris on a school trip. The first day we found a street market that was just winding up. There was a stall there with lovely beaten copper jewellery. My friend bought a necklace - copper spirals. Unfortunately it disappeared somewhere before it got back to the UK. A total mystery. On hearing I had started working in metal my friend started saying "Do you remember when..." and I knew what she was going to say. Here's the result. The dangly bit is actually an extender chain.

Post by: mizgeorge on June 17, 2013, 08:41:23 PM
I'm famously hopeless at getting round to take pictures, so I always feel a bit smug when I do so! So apologies for a bit of a hog now.

Firstly, a bit of maille - heavily oxidised butterfly weave with a bit of labradorite

Finally a bunch of earrings. The first couple of pairs use bronze headpins and titanium earwires (because bronze isn't nice in the ears). The first set have some beads from Clare Morris and Unicorn beads drops, and the second are my own beads. The aqua and sterling ones are my attempts at bumpy beads, shamelessly copied from some I saw on here quite a long time ago and I can only apologise for not being able to remember who made them.

Title: Necklace assortment!
Post by: cbeadies on July 07, 2013, 05:25:08 PM
I've been experimenting with different methods of making necklaces...

...simply strung on beading chain - not sure how strong this will be but nice and easy to assemble.
(http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/cbeadies/564d3406-fa6b-4d30-8e88-ac4750484aec.jpg) (http://s765.photobucket.com/user/cbeadies/media/564d3406-fa6b-4d30-8e88-ac4750484aec.jpg.html)

Knotted pinks and greens.(http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/cbeadies/daeebf55-093d-43eb-b553-fb3ccd077db6.jpg) (http://s765.photobucket.com/user/cbeadies/media/daeebf55-093d-43eb-b553-fb3ccd077db6.jpg.html)

A few 'lonely' beads with faux suede cord - lovely and soft to wear.
(http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/cbeadies/cd6f0fe6-45ac-495c-b7ef-256de3d023c4.jpg) (http://s765.photobucket.com/user/cbeadies/media/cd6f0fe6-45ac-495c-b7ef-256de3d023c4.jpg.html)

And a couple of necklaces using leather cord, very easy. The turquoise and ivory set are some beads I made ages and ages ago, they are far from perfect but a shame to leave them in a box, maybe they have that certain artisan look! Maybe!

Title: A couple of etched pieces
Post by: chipperpottery on August 08, 2013, 12:32:17 PM
Etched and made these couple of items this week.
The bead is a etched and formed hollow bead / pendant.

Title: Felt and silk beaded cuff
Post by: ★★Terri★★ on August 12, 2013, 11:32:05 AM

I have been busy moving house recently, but have found the time to make a new cuff.  Needle felted flowers on a silk covered cuff blank with a bit of polyester padding to plump it up a bit.  Then finished off with some seed beads that I found in my stash. ;D ;D

Title: Some basic wire-wrap creations
Post by: Yeske on August 14, 2013, 12:49:57 PM
A few months back I was really into gemstones and wire-wrapping. These are some creations that I like and want to show.

Sterling silver creoles with Iolite facetted beads
(https://img1.etsystatic.com/016/1/6893749/il_570xN.413072639_i37b.jpg)

Simply just some oxidized silver wire ;)

A simple, handformed earstud with dangles of facetted amethyst and crystal

Sadly, I do not have a nice picture of this one.. But this is watermelon tourmaline with gold wire and oxidized silver

Title: A non lampwork ring
Post by: Nammie on September 29, 2013, 08:52:37 PM
I couldn't find a ring thread (I confess, I didn't look very hard) so I've started one for this ring...

I finally finished it this week! The 'stone' is Fordite or Denver Agate which is the build up of car paint from the spraying booths in car factories. There are several clever people cutting and polishing it into beautiful cabs etc. This one came from Sue at Fordite Fanatics http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ForditeFanaticsUK

I belong to the Art and Craft Guild of Lancashire (http://www.artandcraftguild.co.uk/events.html) and have been making up jewellery for our exhibition next week. Luckily the mojo is slowly returning and hopefully the forgotten skills will soon follow :-\

If you're anywhere near Preston between 15th and 26th October go and have a look in the Green Room at Barton Grange (http://www.bartongrange.co.uk/events.html), we have paintings, ceramics, wood, lovely soap, everything handmade - lots of ideas for Christmas presents :D

I had a request to remake a piece of jewellery from my website - a Copper and Chrysocolla Viking Knit necklace and matching earrings, which I finished this week:

They will be winging their way to Australia next week.

I also made a multi strand bracelet for a friend:

(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5510/10380577343_e4aa1b7eb3.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90909447@N07/10380577343/)

I made the button from etched copper, and there are two fat lampwork disc beads that I made a while ago, all the others are seed beads. No more jewellery for a while now, as I have to make shedloads of guitar scratchplates for the Northern Guitar Show next Sunday. Hoping we sell a few, Christmas is coming ;D

Title: Two simple necklesses
Post by: Irene on October 26, 2013, 12:31:21 AM
This is my very first neckless.  The flowers are not the prettiest but I like it anyway.

Next one was this one.
(http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm317/ACDonMyMind/ab7b52f9-bab8-4aa5-9973-a4d11d97680b.jpg) (http://s299.photobucket.com/user/ACDonMyMind/media/ab7b52f9-bab8-4aa5-9973-a4d11d97680b.jpg.html)

(http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm317/ACDonMyMind/a37a86bf-756c-4f8e-85e9-08931d0cc3dc.jpg) (http://s299.photobucket.com/user/ACDonMyMind/media/a37a86bf-756c-4f8e-85e9-08931d0cc3dc.jpg.html)

I really want to make some more wirework too, its fun! But this wire here is too soft it will lose its form if it is pulled, might be better if it was hammered a bit perhaps.

Title: My first lentils are now a complete neckless
