Why don't you try calling Robin on 01929 477 137 - he should hopefully be able to help?

He'll be travelling from tomorrow though, so call tonight.

What are you doing just before you start to anneal, holding a temperature for a while or going full on to the temperature to load immediately?

Controllers when on full have a nasty habit of deciding not to start controlling untill it is too late. The momentum then gained by the kiln then shoots the kiln way past it's stop point. The controller in turn sees this continual rise and presumes there is a problem.
How long does it take your kiln to reach 510 from cold when on full power or 999 as it is?

ermmmm id say about 10mins or so

Try putting in a value for it to control to. For it to get there in 30 mins you would still have to put in 999 which would be full on so you maight want to try taking it up over say 45 mins which would mean programing in a rate of around 680, you can always start to speed it up again till it start to go too far over.

so instead of ramp1 full  put 680 in?

I had that problem- paragon told me to take it up more slowly, and it worked. Full speed just makes it overshoot, so I do the following
  rate      temp
1 650c     480c
2 400c     537c

hope this helps- having trouble posting too, so hope this shows up!

Yes Bubblefizz, what turnedlight has said has pretty much backed up what I was saying. Give it a go, think you'll find it'll sort it.

ok many many thanks to ya both  ;)

i dont understand the rates and temps it confuses me

turnedlight i dont understand this bit ???
1 650c     480c
2 400c     537c
can you explain please, sorry im terrible with numbers.
anyway ive ramped to 680 is that all i need to do?

ok- do ramp 1 at speed of 650c to get to 480c, and hold for 00.00
do ramp 2 at a speed of 400c to get to 537c (which is the right temp for annealing)  then hold for as long as you like- say 2 hours.
then ramp 3 is your cooling down ramp-  I do it at a speed of 222c down to the temp of 371c

hope this is a bit clearer?

by the way- it was clear as mud to me, until I spoke to Paragon kilns- I tried e-mailing, then I actually rang them up- very helpful. look at paragonweb.com for details. Good luck!

Thanks!
well i put in 680 and its now stabalised its hovering between 504- 518  ;D ;D

i only know the schedual like HP (Helen)wrote it
this is what i have:

ramp1 full    (changed to 680)
temp1 510
hold1 6.00
ramp2 full
temp2 520
hold2 60mins
ramp3 78
temp3 371
hold3 0.00
ramp4 0000

so what im trying to say is do i need to change anything else aswell?

If the kiln doesn't overshoot, and it goes through all its steps as you told it, then I reckon that sounds ok.
The first two ramps are simply to take it up to the right temperature without going too fast. The third ramp you have there is to cool the kiln down slowly- you have got it cooling down at (ramp 3) 78c per hour. That's pretty slow, but probably very good for your beads!
Looking forward to seeing your beads!

But i do make HUGE beads!
