Title: Plowdens COE93 Transparant Purple Question
Post by: stuwaudby on January 19, 2011, 02:03:53 PM
This stuff is driving me mad. The colour is fantastic but something causes it to go cloudy. I can make two beads one after the other and one will be crystal clear, the other completly opaque. I've tried oxidizing, reducing, striking and can't re-produce the effect with any consistency. A bead with cloudy sides can sometimes be cleared by re-heating the sides.

When heated the rods stay clear in the flame and get cloudy further away.

Anyone know whats going on?

With boro, metals in the glass cause haze on the surface which needs to be burnt away to give a good colour before the rod is used. Reheating brings more metallic haze to the surface, which can usually be burnt off with more heat. The haze builds with warming.
I wonder if this P&T glass is doing the same sort of thing?
